Russell Crowe Explains Why He’ll Never Marry Britney Theriot, Denies Engagement Rumors

Russell Crowe opened up about his relationship with his much younger girlfriend, Britney Theriot, on Sunday’s 60 Minutes.

In a surprisingly candid interview with Karl Stefanovic, the Gladiator actor dismissed claims he was engaged to his 33-year-old partner of five years.

The divorced father-of-two, who was previously wed to singer Danielle Spencer, explained that he never intends to marry again.

‘All these reports coming out that Britney and I are engaged and I’m going to get married again? No,’ he said definitively.

‘My life is joyous and happy, why ruin that with a wedding?’ the Oscar-winner joked.

Russell dished intimate details about his life with his US-born ladylove, telling viewers that they were ‘very good friends’ who enjoy a ‘wonderful’ relationship.

‘We respect each other and wake up with a smile, and we are very happy,’ he said, adding that they ‘do everything together’.

Russell, who recently received acclaim for his performance in the new WWII epic Nuremberg, also explained why he would never again head down the aisle.

‘I’ve been married once, and I know where that can go,’ the Hollywood star, who married Spencer in 2003, explained.

He continued: ‘I’m not gonna get married again. Doing it once is cool, but I don’t want to get married again.’

Crowe and Australian actress Spencer share two sons, Charles, 21, and 19-year-old Tennyson.

The couple announced they were splitting back in 2012 after nine years of marriage, and finalised their divorce six years later.

The actor maintains a close relationship with his ex-wife despite their marriage officially ending in 2018.

At one point in their 60 Minutes interview, Stefanovic challenged the box-office favourite about whether he was a romantic.

‘Mate, you know how romantic it is to be boyfriend and girlfriend wherever you are in the world?’ Russell replied.

A New Orleans native, Britney is a former actress and previous Saints cheerleader.

The couple went red carpet official in October 2022 at the Rome premiere of Russell’s movie Poker Face.

It came after they’d been dating for nearly two years, following the start of their romance in November 2020.

Before striking up an intimate connection, the couple had met on the set of the thriller Broken City in 2013.

Crowe recently enjoyed a date night with Theriot at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.

The couple hit the red carpet premiere for Nuremberg, with the two putting on a cozy display.

The historical drama is based on Jack El-Hai’s 2013 nonfiction book The Nazi and the Psychiatrist.

Russell portrays Hermann Göring, who was a towering figure in the Nazi Party.

His performance has stirred up Oscar buzz, and could potentially place him back in the race for the first time since his Lead Actor nod for A Beautiful Mind in 2002.
