Roxy Jacenko Opens Up About Her Surprising Relocation to Singapore, the Impact on Her Marriage to Oliver Curtis, and Reveals Intimate Details About Their Love Life – Will They Return to Sydney?

Roxy Jacenko is loving her new life in Singapore with her husband Oliver Curtis and their two kids – daughter Pixie, 12, and son Hunter, nine.

The 44-year-old entrepreneur, who is currently in Sydney for the launch of her latest boot camp, settled in to the Southeast Asian country six months ago and has been living it up in style ever since.

In an exclusive interview with Daily Mail Australia, Roxy says while she will never return to Sydney.

‘I don’t have any plans to come back. I’m sorry to say,’ Roxy says.

‘I love Australia. Don’t get me wrong. It’s so nice to look out at the ocean and have that opportunity. But I love being so close to all different places. 

‘Since being in Singapore, I’ve travelled to Thailand, to Vietnam, to India. We’re so far away from everything in Australia… All of a sudden, my life has become a lot more colourful. I can explore and do different stuff.’

The Sweaty Betty founder revealed back in June she was leaving Sydney to live with her husband in Singapore.

At the time, she admitted her life in Sydney has a stark difference to her upcoming new life overseas.

‘No one knows me there, no one has any preconceived idea of who or what I am, no one has any expectation, and best of all, no one actually cares!’ she told the Sydney Morning Herald.

‘In Singapore it was a matter of “Roxy who?” I actually found it really refreshing and a bit liberating.’

Roxy’s marriage to Oliver Curtis has ‘strengthened’ since the move

Roxy stresses her marriage to husband Oliver, 39, was never in turmoil before her move to Singapore, but admits their relationship has definitely improved now that their family is under one roof.

‘There’s been many-a-rumour that I’m divorced, or I’m separated or whatever. My husband doesn’t like to be on social media, which is understandable,’ she says.

‘I threaten him all the time with [divorce]. And he’s probably hoping one day I’m actually really serious!’ she jokes.

‘Ollie is working harder than he’s ever worked in his life, we hardly ever see him, but [moving to Singapore] has put us all together in one house. In the morning – Ollie’s amazing – he’ll get breakfast ready for the kids and get them out the door with me. We didn’t have that opportunity before.

‘Life’s very different now. We are active parents together, which we’ve never had the opportunity to be before.

Roxy calls her husband, who she married in 2012, her ‘best friend’ and explains their relationship isn’t a stereotypical romance.

‘I mean, I think no marriage is perfect. We’re a good team is what I’d say,’ Roxy continues.

‘He’s my best friend. He’s got my back no matter what. If I say to him, I need you to do something for me. I might have to ask him 15 times to do it, but he’ll do it. I think that’s why it works. 

‘I’m not looking to have date nights on Tuesday nights. Our life is our kids – making sure that they’ve got the best opportunities… [Oliver’s] focus is that he has a family unit together, which is why he wanted us to move and to make sure the kids had that exposure to having a father figure around all the time.’

What Roxy’s kids REALLY think of living in Singapore 

Moving countries a young age is tough, so it’s no surprise Roxy’s daughter Pixie and son Hunter struggled when they said goodbye to their friends in Sydney and started a new life overseas.

‘It’s been challenging for both of them. There’s no doubt about it,’ she says.

‘We’ve had many tears from Pixie, she misses her friends. So it’s a tricky age. She’s 12. She misses her friends dearly.’

The businesswoman also reveals Pixie, who became a millionaire when she was only 11 years old, now knows how to travel back to Australia on her own.

‘She’s learned how to fly back herself,’ Roxy says. ‘I want [Pixie] to be self sufficient. I want her to know that you don’t rely on anyone and you have to be able to get your s**t together and get it done. No one’s going to spoon feed you.’

As for nine-year-old son Hunter, the pre-teen has a different way of dealing with the move.

‘He doesn’t cry. He just kicks a soccer ball at me. But they’re getting into it,’ Roxy adds.

Does Roxy think she spoils her kids too much?

From elaborate birthday wish lists to lavish ski holidays in Courchevel, Roxy and her kids have seen and done it all.

Last month, Hunter Curtis shared his list of luxury demands for his upcoming birthday, with the total cost of the gifts coming to a shocking $12,795.

While many Australians have criticised the media personality for spoiling her children, Roxy says she instils hard-working ethics onto them. 

‘My kids are no different to any other kid in terms of writing wish lists,’ she explains.

‘Let them do the research! Let them scour the internet, let them have wants and desires, and then realise that in order to get those things in life, you have to work hard.

‘At that age, it’s whether you’re doing your homework well, you’re attending, tutoring, you’re excelling at school. I’ve got no problem with it.’

However, like any parent, the mother-of-two does worry about their behaviour as they grow older.

Hunter and Pixie are still young, but adolescence isn’t far away for the siblings – especially Pixie, who turns 13 this year.

‘Kids these days are a lot more exposed to things that I wasn’t in my generation. What we did as adolescents and what they do today is very different,’ she says.

‘I think as a parent, one of the most important things is that we just culture them to know that if anything is to happen, that you have our full support, that we’ll help you fix things. 

‘But also to teach them at the same time what can happen – if you go to a party, and there’s alcohol there, I prefer you don’t do it. But if you do, these are the ramifications. That if there’s boys at the party, this is what can happen. 

‘It’s about having those difficult conversations, because you can’t hide them from what’s out there. You just have to make them aware of it.’

Roxy also admits she’s not as strict a parent as some might want her to be.

‘My mother tells me I should be a lot stricter,’ she says. ‘Whilst I don’t believe giving free rein, I do want them to be in situations where they make a call on what the best decision is.

‘When I hit 18, I went crazy. I went crazy and I rebelled because I was so protected and put in a bubble from being exposed to stuff which was nothing on what it is today.

Roxy’s next move
