The 66-year-old actress told UsWeekly that she does not think it was fair that he has been trashed over his comments about ballet or opera.
'This guy is, like, the most amazing actor [with] an incredible performance.
'He said something that was in no way shape or form meant to harm anybody, or harm opera or harm ballet.
'You understand where he was coming from, but they took it and turned it into this huge drama that is pretty sad. We all have to learn how to watch what we say in the press or online. God knows, I’m a perfect example of that.'
Earlier this month fired back after she criticized his use of the N-word in the script for Pulp Fiction.

Arquette grew up on a commune then was a child actress in the 1970s as she popped up on TV shows like Zuma Beach and Eight Is Enough.
She stood out in movies in the 1980s like Down And Out in Beverly Hills, Jumpin' at the Boneyard and Jack Be Nimble.
Her career took off when she worked with Madonna on the fun 1985 hit Desperately Seeking Susan.
Arquette also had roles in 1998's Hope Floats with Sandra Bullock and 2000's The Whole Nine Yard with Matthew Perry.
She also comes from an acting family: her brother is Scream star David Arquette and her sister is Oscar-winning actress Patricia Arquette.
The ex-wife of Todd Morgan said she feels bad for Chalamet because she went through something similar herself in her youth.
'I learned that for myself because I myself experienced it, which was incredible praise in the early years, like, beyond crazy, great praise,' she said.
The star also said: 'They build you up to rip you to shreds.'

And she wants to help others who are suffering in the same way.
'I’m very protective of young people who are coming into this business, and that goes to my daughter too, and my niece,' she said.
Arquette shares daughter Zoe Bleu with ex John Sidel.
The problem stems from unfortunate male behavior, she said.
'The sexism is huge. Unfortunately, even with the #MeToo movement, it hasn’t gone away, as we’re seeing what’s going on right now with the Epstein files and everything,' noted the star.
'And it seems like it’s actually, in a lot of ways, gotten worse in a lot of areas of entertainment — in any business.'
