Sir Rod Stewart’s ex-wife Alana Stewart has revealed she’s been hospitalised with a ‘stubborn’ lung infection – more than a month after battling Covid.
The former model and actress, 80, sparked concern among her fans when she shared a video update with fans on Instagram on Tuesday.
Alana explained that she is currently undergoing two weeks of IV antibiotic treatment at UCLA Santa Monica after oral medication failed to clear the infection.
Alana – who was married to Sir Rod from 1979 to 1984 and is the mother of his children Kimberly Stewart, 46, and Sean Stewart, 45 – said she had been advised to begin intravenous treatment but had been reluctant due to allergies to certain medications.
Speaking from the hospital’s garden, she told her fans: ‘I’ve been getting IV antibiotics for this infection I’ve had in my lungs for a really long time. I’ve been on every kind of oral antibiotic, and it hasn’t gotten rid of it. So now I’m doing two weeks of IV antibiotics.
‘I can’t say that it’s fun, but I’m really hoping that this is going to work, and I’m going to feel 100 per cent great and healthy again. Anyway, I’m doing good, I’m downstairs in their meditation garden, which is absolutely beautiful. I’m so fortunate to be able to come down here and walk every day.’

In the caption, Alana described the infection as ‘stubborn’, adding: ‘My doctors have been advising me to do this for a while and I finally listened and bit the bullet. I have to admit I was terrified of IV antibiotics because I have allergies to so many medications but so far so good.’
She added: ‘Being here isn’t the worst thing in the world… getting waited on and not having to do errands and deal with everyday life. I’m grateful to the doctors and nurses here who have all been so nice and I’m hoping for a speedy recovery.’
The hospitalisation comes four weeks after Alana revealed she had been struck down with Covid while in Florida, sharing updates about her recovery throughout September.
In one post from Palm Beach, she wrote: ‘I’ve been MIA this past week because I came down with Covid on Monday. Ugh! It seems to be going around again.Â
‘I’ve been slowly getting better. I’m getting an IV of fluids and vitamins here at Sollis Health… Covid always scares me because things have a tendency to go into my lungs and turn into bronchitis or, God forbid, pneumonia.’
Days later, the former Fantasy Island star turned TV producer posted a photo from a wellness clinic in Boca Raton, explaining she was still coughing and ‘not feeling up to par yet’ despite testing negative.
‘I came to get another laser and Covid detox treatment,’ she told followers, adding that she believed the therapy had helped her recover ‘much quicker than I would have’.
By mid-September, she appeared to be on the mend, sharing a photo taken on her balcony in the Florida sunshine.Â

‘I was lucky that I got through Covid without any serious complications except a lingering cough and low energy,’ she wrote at the time.
However, the lingering respiratory symptoms appear to have worsened on her return to Los Angeles, leading to her current hospitalisation.
Alana does not know whether her lung infection has been caused by Covid. In 2022, she wrote on X that she was ‘up-to-date’ with vaccines but still contracted the illness. It is not clear whether she had had any vaccine boosters since then.
Fans were quick to share their concern, with one commenting: ‘I’m so sorry to hear this. Praying for you Alana. I hope you have a speedy recovery too’.
Another wrote: ‘Alana you’ve had problems with this since covid, hope you feel better’
Alana – who was married to film and TV star George Hamilton, 86, for four years until 1976 before tying the knot with Sir Rod – remains on good terms with both of her ex-husbands.
She and George share actor son Ashley, 51, and have long referred to themselves as ‘best friends’.

She also has an enduring bond with Sir Rod, with whom she co-parented their two children following their amicable split in the mid-1980s.Â
The pair have reunited for family events over the years, including their son Sean’s 2023 wedding to Jody Weintraub – from whom he is now divorced – where they posed happily for photos together.
Sir Rod is now married to model Penny Lancaster, with whom he shares two sons.
Despite her health setback, Alana appeared optimistic in her latest hospital video, dressed casually as she spoke from the facility’s tranquil outdoor garden.
‘There’s beautiful trees and some of the trees are starting to turn,’ she told fans, ‘so we get a real feeling of fall, and there’s beautiful places to sit.’
