Robert Pattinson is offering an update about his highly-anticipated sequel to his 2022 film The Batman.

The 38-year-old actor – who recently admitted a traumatic story from his youth was completely made up – was back in his hometown of London for the premiere of his new film Mickey 17 from director Bong Joon-ho (Parasite), in theaters March 7.

The Twilight star earned rave reviews for his portrayal of Bruce Wayne a.k.a. Batman in director Matt Reeves’ film, which took in $772 million worldwide three years ago.

Pattinson and director Reeves have already been confirmed to return for the sequel, which Warner Bros. has set for release on October 1, 2027.

When asked about the sequel on the red carpet on Thursday, he revealed to Deadlineย the sequel will go before cameras at the end of 2025.ย 

‘We haven’t shot it yet,’ Pattinson revealed on the red carpet, adding principal photography will start, ‘at the end of the year.’

The interviewer added that he thought some filming had took place already, as Pattinson said, ‘No no no. That was the first one.

He admitted, ‘Everything feels so long ago because of COVID just erased three years,’ though the actor would not offer any story snippets.

When asked if he could tease anything about the story, Pattinson said, ‘Not yet, it’s cool though, it’s cool.’

The Batman offered a new glimpse at the iconic character, with the first film set during his second year of fighting crime in Gotham.ย 

The film followed him trying to uncover the growing corruption in Gotham while also trying to track down a nefarious new villain known as The Riddler (Paul Dano).

The Batman also starred Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Colin Farrell as The Penguin.ย 

The Batman was written by Reeves and Peter Craig, with Reeves taking the helm for the superhero film.

Reeves also served as an executive producer of Max’s critically-acclaimed series The Penguin, which brought Farrell back as the title character.

Reeves had said the show would serve as a bridge from The Batman to The Batman Part II, also starring Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone and Rhenzy Feliz as The Penguin’s new right hand man Victor Aguilar.ย

Warner Bros. had previously set an October 2, 2026 release date though it pushed it by nearly a year.
