Robert Irwin’s Near-Death Experience on Dancing With The Stars: ‘I Almost Died!’

Robert Irwin continued to dazzle fans with yet another sizzling performance on Dancing With The Stars US on Tuesday.

But the 21-year-old has revealed that all was not well behind the scenes.

Speaking to reporters after filming the new episode, the Aussie conservationist said the cameras missed the moment he nearly ‘choked to death’.

‘I almost died tonight!’ an excited Robert told a reporter from Entertainment Tonight.

‘I choked on a piece of confetti after the team dance!’

He continued: ‘I went over to [dance partner] Witney and I think they cut away and I inhaled a piece of confetti.’

Robert then corrected himself and said he was not ‘actually’ choking but he could not ‘breathe’ after the paper got caught in his airway.

The reality star said that he desperately approached Witney and signalled to her that he was choking.

‘And I just went, “Ugh!” And it just popped out! I’m not even kidding!’ he said.

It comes after Robert Irwin and Witney wowed fans with an impressive Paso Doble set to The White Stripes’ Icky Thump for the show’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Night.

Those tuning in at home were convinced that the Wildlife Warrior would land a perfect score – but he managed 38 points.

It was a tie with the week’s best performance, but that was not enough to satiate Robert’s vocal fans, who voiced their concerns on social media.

‘Give this man his Mirrorball! So tired of the judges robbing him of a perfect score,’ wrote one person on X.

‘I feel rage baited with these scores! So good,’ another person wrote, with one more saying, ‘Give this man all the 10s. This was so good.’

‘Best dance of the night in a night of great dancing!’ said someone else, with another posting, ‘No way they can top that. Truly talented.’

‘Okay Robert Irwin, that dance was INSANE. Winner incoming,’ one more chimed in.

Robert also shocked fans by performing a Halloween-themed dance that left both judges and audiences in awe last week.

The celebrity conservationist took to the stage to perform to a haunting rendition of the classic song Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This).

Irwin looked dashing in a gothic-inspired costume as he portrayed a conductor who brings his partner back to life during a terrifying night out.

At one point, Robert’s face was soaked with fake blood and he appeared equally gruesome and terrifying as he performed his electrifying dance for the crowd.

The performance earned near-perfect scores from the judges, as Robert was awarded a total of 38 out of 40.
