Robert Irwin has just been honoured with a special tribute off the back of his hosting success on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Australia.
The 20-year-old conservationist and television presenter took to Instagram on Monday to announce the news to his 5.8 million followers.
‘Hey guys, I’ve got some really exciting news. A brand new species of snail that has just been discovered has been named after me,’ the Wildlife Warrior began in a video.
‘This is the Robert Irwin Banded Snail, have a look at him, isn’t he cute?’ he continued as an image of the creature appeared on screen.
‘Some of the world’s leading snail scientists, or malacologists as they’re officially known, found this little bloke in southeast Queensland. Previously unknown to science and they decided to name him [after me]. What an honour.’

Robert added that the tribute was ‘particularly meaningful’ to him because of his conservation work involving habitat protection.
It comes just after the finale of the 2024 season of I’m A Celebrity, where Robert was praised for his co-hosting role with Julia Morris, after Dr Chris Brown’s departure from the show.
However, an insider has claimed the young presenter will not be back to host next year.

According to Woman’s Day, the wildlife enthusiast is being poached back by rival network Seven.
‘His easygoing and faultless live TV skills have won over the nation. But his career at Ten will only be short-lived, and he is heading back to Seven,’ the source told the publication.
The strategic negotiation is said to have been orchestrated by Robert’s mother Terri Irwin, who has been hailed as the ultimate ‘mumager’.
‘The Irwins are very smart when it comes to negotiations,’ the insider added.

Robert’s departure from the popular show will mark the end of a partnership that brought fresh energy to the series.
The magazine’s source added that the decision to join IAC was seen as a one-off opportunity to elevate his mainstream television profile – a goal that has undoubtedly been achieved.
Channel Seven is reportedly keen to welcome him back with open arms and a lucrative deal.
‘Seven want Robert back and have thrown a king’s ransom at him,’ the source explained.
