Robert Irwin has lifted the lid on his love life and why dating in the public eye is ‘challenging’.
The wildlife warrior, who was seen spending time with his rumoured new girlfriend Xochitl Gomez before the Dancing With The Stars finale on Tuesday, sat down with New York Times to discuss the highs and lows of the limelight when it comes to relationships. Â
‘Holy moly, that’s so challenging to navigate,’ the 21-year-old said, adding that anything he does ‘will be on TikTok the next day.’
However, despite growing up in the public eye like his famous dad, the late Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin, he emphasised that he will never ‘change’ who he is and he is the same person both on and off the camera. Â
‘I never change what I say, what I do, who I am one bit, wherever I am,’ he said.Â
‘It’s just me, and I stand by who I am.’

The Aussie icon was seen with a bouquet of flowers, seemingly gifted to him by Xochitl, 19.
Xochitl won the 32nd season of Dancing With The Stars, however she returned to the show earlier this year, teaming up with Robert as his jive partner for the series’ 20th anniversary special.Â
Robert’s sure win of the mirrorball trophy has meanwhile been put in jeopardy after it was revealed he had suffered a shock injury just hours out from his anticipated performance in the finale.
The wildlife warrior’s dance partner, Witney Carson, took to TikTok on Monday night to reveal that Robert had suffered a rib injury.
The clip showed Witney reflecting on her time with Robert on the hit reality series, and the physical toll it has taken on them both.
‘I look so wrecked. This is what 11 weeks of crazy, vigorous, hard dancing looks like,’ Witney revealed in the clip.
‘My body is feeling it. Robert’s body is feeling it. We’re just trying to hold it together right now.’

Speaking before the pair’s final on-set rehearsal, Witney then revealed that Robert had been practising the routines through gritted teeth.
‘Robert’s ribs have been killing him,’ she said.
While she didn’t go into detail about the extent of the injury, Witney added that more would be revealed when they take to the stage.
‘More will be revealed on Tuesday and you guys can get a better idea of what we’ve been dealing with all week,’ she said.
‘I do have to change some things that involve other dancers and involve the other guys, so it’s just honestly been the most stressful part.’
In spite of his injury, Witney said that Robert had been pushing through regardless.
‘Knowing Robert, he’s going to want to rehearse until the very last second,’ she said.
‘Last night, we stayed at the studio until it closed down. They had to kick us out at nine pm. We’re going to have absolutely no regrets by the end of this.’
