Justin Timberlake was brutally trolled by Ricky Gervais on Wednesday as the singer’s arrest for driving under the influence sparked a wave of reaction across social media.
The former NSYNC singer, 43, was taken into custody after police officers spotted his car driving erratically through Sag Harbor in upmarket New York enclave The Hamptons on Tuesday.
Timberlake, who is currently in the midst of a world tour, told officers he had only consumed ‘one Martini’ – but he was arrested and taken to the nearest station after ‘performing poorly on all standardised field sobriety tests.’
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday evening, Gervais, 62 – famed for his merciless celebrity put-downs during two hosting roles at the Golden Globes – poked fun at the star, whose mugshot has since been released by Sag Harbor police department.
Addressing Timberlake directly, he wrote: ‘Did you get the bottle of Dutch Barn Vodka I sent you the other day?’

The post prompted a mixed response from fans, with many seeing the funny side as Timberlake’s widely circulated mugshot inevitably turned into a meme.
‘Things like Gervais trolling Timberlake is what makes Twitter so great,’ wrote one amused follower.
‘I don’t get these rich and famous people…why don’t they hire a limo or an Uber or call a friend…,’ added a second.
Police described Timberlake as having ‘bloodshot and glassy’ eyes, smelling strongly of alcohol, having slowed speech and unable to maintain his attention after being pulled over in The Hamptons.
And fans made jokes about the size of his ‘one’ martini glass, while his famous dance moves came back to haunt him after he failed a field sobriety test.
One wrote: ‘Why does Justin Timberlake look so hungover if he only had ONE martini? The martini…’, alongside a gif of a giant martini glass being carried over to a table.
Others uploaded memes of bartenders generously pouring alcohol into a cocktail glass.

Another fan compared him to Eddie Redmayne’s Cabaret performance at the Tony Awards and wrote: ‘Justin Timberlake claiming he had one martini’.
The father-of-two was also said to have been unsteady on his feet and ‘performed poorly’ on a field sobriety test, which he ultimately failed.
Sobriety tests often include being asked to walk heel-to-toe in a straight line and turn or stand on one leg.
Fans joked that Timberlake, who was famous for his impressive dance moves on stage, could have recreated one of his routines when asked to walk in a straight line.
‘Sir I’m gonna need you step out of the vehicle and walk in a straight line’ alongside a photo of him dancing and body locking on stage.
After being arrested and taken to a local police station, Justin also refused to take a breathalyzer test.
One meme made reference to his actress wife Jessica Biel and how he would have to explain his arrest. Captioning a photo ‘sad telephone call’ they added: ‘Justin Timberlake trying to call Jessica Biel from stage.’
Another shared compared Timberlake’s mugshot to Skipper from Madagascar with bloodshot eyes.
