Richard Gere is the latest big name star to turn his attention toward the small screen.

The actor, 74, who posed in a rare Father’s Day photo with his wife and their children, has been cast in the Showtime production The Agency.

The series is based on the highly acclaimed French program The Bureau.

It is the American Gigolo star’s first major television role as a series regular, although he has starred in previous television limited series, including 1994’s And The Band Played On, for which he received an Emmy nomination.

Gere will take on the role of Bosko, a London station chief, who has just completed an eight-year undercover assignment, according to a statement released by Paramount+ and Showtime.

The show is being produced by George Clooney and partner Grant Heslov through their company Smokehouse Pictures.

‘Richard Gere is in a class of his own, adored by generations of fans worldwide for his exceptional ability to infuse depth and authenticity into every role he plays,’ said Paramount Global Co-CEO and Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios President/CEO, Chris McCarthy.

Michael Fassbender, 47, and Jeffrey Wright, 58, have also signed on for the espionage drama.

The political thriller will follow Fassbender’s Martian, a covert CIA agent ordered to abandon his undercover life, and report to Gere’s Bosko in London.

His career, his real identity and his mission are put in jeopardy when the love he left behind from his undercover life finds him and they reignite their romance.

Wright will star as Henry, the director of operations and a mentor to Martian.

Production on The Agency is underway in London.

If The Agency follows the same trajectory as The Bureau, the show will focus on those responsible for training and handling deep-cover agents on long-term missions.

While living under those false identities for years at a time, the undercover operatives are required to identify and recruit good intelligence sources.
