Where is The Traitors filmed?
The Traitors is filmed around a Scottish castle from which contestants take part in challenges on the estate – testing their strength, stamina and problem-solving – to build the prize fund.
Ardross Castle is the location in question, located in the Highlands almost 20 miles north of Inverness.
The 19th-century building is surrounded by more than 100 acres of land, up to the River Alness, some of which featured in the show’s first visit to the grounds.
According to the castle’s website, the estate was developed by Sir Alexander Matheson after he bought it in 1839.
Architect Alexander Ross redesigned Ardross Castle in the Scots Baronial style – characterised by elaborate rooflines featuring conical roofs, turrets and battlements – and added 30 rooms to the original building in the process.
Skipping to the present day, the estate has been owned by the McTaggart family since 1983, are credited with ‘extensively renovating’ their property.
Ardross is also the setting of the US version of The Traitors, which launched on the streaming platform Peacock in 2023, hosted by Alan Cumming and featuring various celebrity contestants.
The States’ second season also has a January 2024 start-date, due to debut on January 12 starring former politician John Bercow and Love Island star Ekin-Su Culculoglu.
However, it is not clear whether it will be available on BBC iPlayer in the UK, despite this being the case for the first series.

Can you stay at the castle in The Traitors?
As well as playing host to the various faithfuls and traitors, the property is a wedding venue and can be hired for corporate or private events too.
However, interested fans of the show cannot rent individual rooms, or visit to castle simply for a tour.
The website reads: ‘The castle and estate are privately owned and therefore there is no facility for tour parties or individual visits.’
