Rapp plays Regina George in the upcoming musical comedy feature, which is inspired by the 2004 film of the same name which starred Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Seyfried.
The new version of the film also follows the plotline of an updated musical adaptation of Mean Girls, which premiered in 2017.
The singer played George, who was originally portrayed by Rachel McAdams, when the production moved to Broadway in 2018.
Mean Girls, which was based on Rosalind Wiseman’s 2002 book Queen Bees and Wannabes, is centered on a teenage girl who is tasked with raising her social profile in a status-obsessed high school culture.
Other performers set to appear in the new version of the film are Angourie Rice, Auliʻi Cravalho and Jon Hamm, as well as Tina Fey, who penned the original feature’s screenplay.
Rapp opened up about her role during her interview on Today and stated that her prior experience on the Broadway adaptation of Mean Girls prepared her for her role in the film.
She said: ‘Having already done it, I was like, so, incredibly familiar with the script and the score.’
