‘From his start as a rapper to The Fresh Prince to being a box office king as one of the Bad Boys, Will Smith is truly a global icon, and we are honored to welcome him back to grace the BET Awards stage,’ Connie Orlando, EVP Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy at BET, said in a statement.

‘We look forward to Will adding to yet another defining night for the culture that is not to be missed.’

In June, Remy Ma expressed her support for her son Jayson Scott as she broke her silence following his arrest for the 2021 murder of a man in Queens.

Speaking with TMZ, Remy, 44, said she stood by her son’s ‘innocence’ – as she described the ‘difficult’ circumstances her family is currently facing.

‘We stand by JaySon’s innocence and pray that the NYPD will conduct a complete and thorough investigation to reveal the truth. This is undoubtedly a difficult time for my family and me.

‘While we sincerely appreciate the love and support we have received from all of you, we kindly ask for privacy as our legal team works to prove JaySon’s innocence,’ she told the outlet.

Attorney Dawn Florio is representing Jayson and, through his law office, Remy said: ‘As his mother, I want to address this situation personally but have been strongly advised by his legal counsel not to say anything — as most people in similar situations are informed by their attorneys due to it being an active case.’

Scott was arrested on Tuesday for the murder of a man in Queens that occurred in June of 2021.

Scott, 23, was charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, criminal possession of a weapon, and reckless endangerment for allegedly shooting 47-year-old Darius Guillebeaux following a June 7 argument.

Scott was charged alongside 22-year-old Richard Swygert, who is also facing a murder charge.

Guillebeaux was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his head and chest on June 7, 2021 just before 1pm.

The NYPD says he was then taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The victim had previously been indicted by the New York attorney general as part of a significant drug operation. The investigation, which was called ‘Operation Heat Wave,’ led to 54 arrests for the alleged trafficking of heroin, fentanyl, and oxycodone in upstate New York.

An arraignment is expected to occur in Queens County court on Wednesday.

Scott’s mother, Remy Ma, is a rapper from the Bronx who has been signed with Fat Joe for years.

She used to perform with his group Terror Squad, before releasing the solo album ‘There’s Something About Remy’ in 2006.

Ma, 44, whose real name is Reminisce Kioni Mackie, has herself been convicted of crimes that include assault and illegal weapons possession. The convictions were preceded by a 2007 shooting in a Manhattan deli.

She subsequently spent more than half-a-decade in prison.

Currently, Ma is married to Papoose – also a rapper – with whom she had a child in 2018.
