Ree Drummond’s daughter Alex and her husband, Mauricio Scott, received some help announcing their baby-to-be’s sex from their beloved golden retriever, George.

In an adorable video, uploaded to her Instagram on Monday, the 27-year-old Texas A&M University graduate, who works for her famous mom and spouse allowed their dog to reveal their child’s gender.

After gathering outside in their backyard, the couple fed George a cupcake with either pink or blue icing.

After seeing pink frosting, once the pooch got to the middle of his second treat, Alex immediately exclaimed: ‘It’s a girl!’

‘Hopefully George loves his little sister half as much as he loved those cupcakes!’ Alex captioned the post.

Under the post, Alex’s sister, Paige, sweetly wrote: ‘Yayyyy!!! Can’t wait to meet my niece!’

According to Alex’s mother’s blog, The Pioneer Woman, Ree initially advised the couple, who wed in 2021, to wait to find out their baby’s sex.

‘Before I share the news, I would like to establish that a) I encouraged Alex and Mauricio not to find out the gender of their baby, and b) Once I realized they were going to find out, I encouraged them to do a gender reveal pizza rather than a more traditional method…or, as an alternative, I offered to devote five whole minutes of this Thursday’s Pawhuska fireworks display to their gender reveal’ she began.

Ree went on to explain that she learned the ‘whole process isn’t about’ her.

Despite the pair not following her advice, Ree said she is ‘seriously’ so ‘happy for them’ and ‘thought their small, intimate gender reveal was very sweet.’

As for becoming a grandmother to a little girl, Ree gushed: ‘To say I’m excited is an understatement! I love my daughters so much. I love the women they are becoming. I love that they are boss over their younger brothers. I freaking love daughters so much.’

She also said her son-in-law will be ‘best girl dad’ and Alex ‘the best girl mom.’

Ree also predicted her husband, Ladd Drummond, multi-generational cattle rancher, will have Alex and Mauricio’s baby girl ‘on a horse by the time she’s two.’

Ree admitted that learning she would become a grandma at 55 came as a bit of a surprise.

‘Gosh, it feels totally different than I thought it would feel,’ she told People. ‘Since we just kind of became empty-nesters, Ladd and I feel like we just finished raising our kids — not even finished! A couple of them are in college, so we’re still raising our kids.’

She confessed: ‘We weren’t necessarily in a big rush to enter the grandparent stage… what I think about most is — this is my honest answer — just how happy I am for my daughter and her husband.’

The soon-to-be addition to their family will be the first grandchild for The Food Network’s The Pioneer Woman.

Last month, Alex revealed her baby was due this winter.

‘Thank you Lord for this precious gift,’ the overjoyed pair added, alongside photos of the couple posing with their dog wearing a bandana that reads “Big Brother,” holding up sonogram pictures and grinning at each other. ‘Thank you Lord for this precious gift.’

As animal lovers, the couple also shared a couple of photos of their beloved dog George wearing a bandana around his neck that reads: ‘big brother.’

Alex’s sister Paige also chimed in, writing: ‘So happy I could cry. Can’t wait to be an auntie!!! I love you guys so much.’

Overjoyed by the news, Ree Drummond, 55, took to the comments section and wrote, ‘Beyond happy for you two!! (And for the whole family!) Love you, Alex and Mauricio!’

The blogger, author and television personality then shared the news on The Pioneer Woman website.

‘Yes, it’s true! Alex and Mauricio are expecting—and I don’t mean a puppy, though I wouldn’t put it past them (or me) to treat news of an upcoming new puppy in the exact same way as a pregnancy announcement,’ Ree shared in her blog.

‘My first baby is having her first baby. My child is going to have a child,’ the The Bartlesville, Oklahoma native continued. ‘It’s surreal, and I’m sure all of you grandparents can relate to the feeling of momentarily leaving your body after hearing upon hearing similar news.’

The pair, who met during their freshman year at Texas A&M University, ended up tying-the-knot at the Drummond Ranch in Pawhuska, Oklahoma in May 2021.

The happy couple had previously revealed in early 2022 that they were in no hurry to become parents and that they were ‘taking our time, not rushing into it, trying to enjoy being married for a little bit.’

'We can't wait to meet you, little one. Baby Scott joining the party this winter! Thank you Lord for this precious gift,' the happy couple gushed when announcing the pregnancy on Instagram

Just over two years later and the pair have apparently gotten in all the alone time they need before deciding to grow their family, although George the Golden Retriever was adopted into the family.

Ree first became a mother in 1997, which was one year after she tied the knot with husband Ladd Drummond, with the arrival of Alex, 26.

The couple would go on to welcome three more children to the world that includes daughter Paige, 24, sons Bryce, 21, Todd, 20, within a four year period.

Fast forward to 2018, and the family grew once more with the addition of a foster son, Jamar, 21.

‘After a year-and-a-half of living in our house, he is an inextricable part of our wacky family,’ Ree shared on The Pioneer Woman in November 2020.

Drummond became known for her blog, The Pioneer Woman, which documented her life in rural Oklahoma.

Capitalizing on the success of her blog, she went on to star in her own television program, of the same name, on The Food Network beginning in 2011.

The foodie has also written cookbooks, a children’s book, an autobiography, while launching a ‘homey lifestyle’ product line of cookware, cutlery, appliances, clothing and outdoor living products in 2015.
