Bill Hader and his girlfriend, fellow comedian Ali Wong, have split after more than two years together – but why?
Initial and perhaps sanitized reports, per People magazine, blamed competing and busy work schedules that ultimately made things ‘too difficult’.
The break up was ‘amicable’ and ‘they are very much friends’, People said.
Now, however, the Daily Mail has learned that there were likely other factors at play – namely 47-year-old Hader’s ‘moody’ personality.
‘Bill is not the easiest to be around, he is tense and harsh a lot of the time, everyone knows this in Hollywood, that is why his nickname is Bill Hater, because he hates on certain things,’ an insider told the Daily Mail.
‘That is how Bill gets so many cute girls; he can be kind at times, but then he can be prickly. You never know what you’re going to get with him.’

It is understood that the split was a long time coming – and the former couple’s close friends were hardly surprised.
‘He was already on the outs with Ali,’ said the insider, who noted that the pair had been distant for several months now.
In fact, right at the start of their relationship in the spring of 2023, their friends had placed bets on how long the romance would last, with the common feeling being that they were mismatched.
‘No one thought it would last because she is a super sweet girl, very normal, very fun and easy going, and he is not. I guess she could take only so much,’ the insider said, who was nonetheless keen to stress that though Hader can be ‘cranky’, he is also ‘hilarious’ and ‘clever’.
Ever since Hader’s 12-year marriage to director Maggie Carey collapsed in 2018, his more recent romances have all been short-lived. The Saturday Night Live funnyman split from actress Rachel Bilson in July 2020 after dating her for less than a year.
In a rather crude podcast interview, Bilson later revealed that the thing she still misses about her ex is ‘his big d***’.
Hader moved on to actress Anna Kendrick, who he dated for two years until the summer of 2022.
Then, in December of that year, he was ‘very briefly’ linked to 43-year-old Wong – hot on the heels of her divorce from businessman Justin Hakuta – before the comedians ended things, Page Six reported at the time. In April 2023, they rekindled the romance.
Wong later told how Hader got her phone number through a mutual friend and messaged her to admit that he’d had a crush on her ‘forever’.
‘It’s not a good time for Bill,’ said our source. ‘He’s approaching his 50s and he is alone again, but he shouldn’t be shocked.’
The last month in particular has indeed been a trying time for Hader.
On December 14 came the grim news out of Hollywood that Hader’s great friend, director Rob Reiner, had been stabbed to death in his Los Angeles mansion alongside his wife Michele.
The couple’s son Nick Reiner, 32, has been charged with both their murders.
But, in an awful twist for Hader, it has since emerged that, in the hours before Nick’s alleged killings, the Reiners’ troubled son had reportedly caused a scene at a holiday party, held at the nearby LA home of Conan O’Brien on December 13, after having got into a tense chat with Hader.
A source claimed to NBC News that Nick, who has a long history of addiction, had been acting erratically at the party and ‘interrupted Hader’ who told him he was he was ‘in the middle of a private conversation.’
The source claimed that Nick then became incensed and ‘stormed off’. Hours later, Rob and Michele Reiner were killed.

A source previously told the Daily Mail that Hader was ‘horrified’ and ‘extremely sad’ over the deaths and did not ‘want to be connected to this story.’
‘Bill doesn’t want this tragedy to be made about him, and any disagreement he may have had with Nick, Bill is refusing to talk about it,’ the source added.
Meanwhile, Wong has not been seen in public since the split and she is yet to comment.
She has two daughters with her former spouse Justin Hakuta. Hader has three daughters with ex-wife Maggie Carey.
