Raye shines at Radio 1’s Big Weekend despite feeling unprepared for the massive crowd

Raye lit up the stage at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Luton on Saturday.

The singer, 26,recently broke the record for the most BRITs won in one night with five to her name following the success of her debut album My 21st Century Blues and treated fans at the annual festival to a medley of her hits.

But just after working her way through songs like Ice Cream Man, Secrets and her signature track Escapism, she admitted to the crowd that she had had  some self-doubt.

She said: ‘I didn’t think I was ready!’

The acclaimed pop star opted for a white floral number emblazoned with roses for her performance and kept her hair in her usual black bouffant.

In the middle of her set, in a nod to her track Worth It, she said: ‘Aren’t we all just looking for someone to make it just a little bit worth it?

‘I haven’t even rehearsed that, I just said it! Now, let’s end it there.’

The Prada songstress was supported by her band for the performance and at one point wanted to ‘hear it for the strings’ as she made sure the crowd gave them recognition.

The scene for the show was set with a dramatic white curtain backdrop with the colour playing a major part through out.

Raye – whose real name is Rachel Keen – had her name spelled out in white lights up above and her backing singers all shone in the same colour.

BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend comes just two days after Raye looked stunning in nude at the Ivor Novello Awards.

She looked incredible in the figure-hugging dress and went home with the Songwriter Of The Year award.

Raye also holds the record for the most BRITs won at a single ceremony, a record which previously stood at four, jointly held by Blur (1995), Adele (2016) and Harry Styles (2023).

Raye had been nominated eight times – the most ever for a single artist in a year – including two nods for song of the year, for Escapism, which won the title, and Prada.

Referencing her new beginning in her Best New Artist Speech, Raye said: ”I have to thank my mum and my dad who are also part of my team, and my grandma. Yes grandma! I, in ways, do feel like a new artist. I released my first song when I was 15, my first mixtape when I was 16, don’t go and listen to it because it’s not that good any more.

‘But I do feel like a new artist, I got to start again. The artist I was three years ago would not believe what she’s seeing today. I’m my own boss now, I’m in control. Thank you!’
