Raye Discusses Dating After Assault, Sister’s Wake-Up Call During Addiction, and Rejecting Weight Loss Jabs

Raye has opened up about dating after her sexual assault and how her sister gave her the biggest wakeup call during her drug battle as she poses for October’s British Vogue.

The hitmaker, 27, previously revealed her deeply sensitive experiences with sexual assault and addiction in her debut album My 21st Century Blues.

Raye was assaulted by a music producer who forced his hand between her legs when she was 17.

Opening up about her previous experience with dating and relationships, she said she grew up wanting a ‘manly man’.

She then mused: ‘Then you go through some of the… you know.’

Raye’s last relationship lasted for two years before coming to an end, with the star admitting she has been ‘single for so long’ since.

Speaking about her split, she said: ‘My last devastating break-up was four, five years ago. I was like, “I’m gonna marry him”.

‘We was together for two years and it ended up not working out. I have never experienced a more crippling emotion.

‘It took me three, four years to get over him. Like, I can’t allow myself to fall in love again until it’s safe.’

When it comes to any potential suitors, Raye said what she looks for in a man has ‘changed significantly over the years’.

During the summer romance rumours surrounding Raye and Formula 1’s Lewis Hamilton began to swirl, particularly as he couldn’t keep his eyes off her during one of her sets.

However, Raye has insisted the pair are just ‘great friends’ and have been for a number of years now.

She added: ‘Shows up for me, I show up for him. Care about him a lot. There’s not really much more to say than that.’

During Raye’s adolescent years, she became involved in drugs, particularly when she was living with her sister Lauren Keen.

Opening up about her addictions at the time, the hitmaker said she shielded drugs from her parents: ‘I didn’t tell Mum and Dad about what we were going through.’

A breakthrough came when Lauren issued harsh words to Raye after having a front row seat at her battles with drugs.

She explained: ‘It got so intense. I said, “I love you as a sister, but I wouldn’t want you in my life as anything else. I don’t like you as a friend.” She’s always said that really hit her.’

The Love Of Your Life star has admitted she’s thought about taking weight loss medication such as Mounjaro after years of battling with her body image and eating disorders.

While she doesn’t judge those who do take the jab, Raye explained: ‘I want to treat my body with respect and I try to look at it like that.

‘I love to try new foods and have a drink with my band, but also want to look in the mirror and not have a mental breakdown.’

Last month Raye was forced to halt her show at All Points East Festival after a fan collapsed in the audience during her set.

After being alerted to trouble in the audience, Raye announced: ‘We’ve got some pointing and waving over there is everything alright. Security please can we get some people over there.

‘Security is coming. Can we clear a path please. Can we get a thumbs up when help has been received.

‘Someone has passed out I think, are they ok? I hope this person is alight. Thumbs up, okay they are being sorted out.’
