Australian radio hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson have taken aim at Chappell Roan for her outburst on the the MTV Video Music Awards red carpet.
The duo didn’t shy away from calling the 26-year-old pop star a ‘brat’ on their KIIS FM Sydney radio show on Friday morning as they weighed into the debate.
Jackie, 49, went as far as to claim that the Pink Pony Club singer is ‘not suited to fame’ after Chappell furiously told a photographer to ‘f**k off’.
Footage of the incident saw Chappell hit back at a photographer who shouted ‘shut the f*** up’ on the red carpet, prompting her to boldly direct the insult back at him.
‘She is not suited to fame at all,’ Jackie began as she weighed in on the now-viral moment.
‘I am wondering if she shouldn’t have just done a SIA or a bloody Daft Punk where she hides [her face] behind something. Because she’s got issues.
‘She was on the red carpet and she didn’t even like the fact that photographers were yelling out her name,’ Jackie said, incorrectly recapping the moment Chappell confronted the red carpet photographer.
‘I mean, she’s on a red carpet that’s going to happen,’ the radio host fumed. ‘So they were just yelling out her name.’

Radio shock jock Kyle, 53, then doubled down as he suggested Chappell should ‘avoid’ stressful events like red carpets.
‘Yeah that’s right,’ Kyle quipped, ‘because people are going to stop paying any attention to the brattiness. It’s a bit much.’
‘I do, you know, I get it,’ Jackie added. ‘You can have your boundaries with people coming up to you all the time. But I think this is too much.
‘It’s like, you’re on a red carpet. Just don’t do the red carpet, then, don’t do it.’
Australian Idol judge Kyle agreed, adding: ‘If you’re full of anxiety, don’t go to a place where all eyes are gonna be on.
‘You know, don’t go where you’re gonna be scrutinised and followed and photographed. Pick a different job.’
Chappell made her MTV VMA debut on Thursday (AST), but things went off the rails before the show even began.
As seen in video footage circulating on social media, Chappell, with her back facing photographers, was in the middle of adjusting her Y/Project gown when she heard a photographer yell: ‘Shut the f*** up!’

Despite Kyle and Jackie O taking aim at her, Chappell was praised by many fans for ‘defending herself’ after her expletive-laden response
The HOT TO GO hitmaker quickly spun around and screamed back, ‘You shut the f*** up!’
After several cheers from onlookers, Chappell went on to shut down the heckler. Wagging her finger, she sternly added, ‘No. Not me, b***h.’
Despite Kyle and Jackie O taking aim at her, Chappell was praised by many fans for ‘defending herself’ after her expletive-laden response.
Chappell has since explained why she decided to speak up during an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
‘This is quite overwhelming and quite scary,’ Chappell told the outlet.
‘For someone who gets a lot of anxiety around people yelling at you, the carpet is horrifying and I yelled back. You don’t get to yell at me like that.’
Chappell has been open about her bipolar II disorder and how her sudden rise to overnight fame has impacted her mental health in recent months.
‘It’s easier for me to stand up for myself,’ she added. ‘I’m not taking this for the rest of my career I’ve been famous for one month this is not how it’s going to go, girl.’
The night later turned around for Chappell when she set fire to the stage with a show-stopping performance of her Hot 100 hit, Good Luck, Babe! which lead to her first ever VMA win

She took home the coveted Best New Artist gong, beating out Benson Boone, Gracie Abrams, Shaboozey, Teddy Swims and Tyla.
Reading her acceptance speech from her diary, Chappell dedicated the award to ‘all the drag artists who inspire me and to queer and trans people who fuel pop.’
‘To the gays: Who dedicate my songs to someone they love or someone they hate,’ she gushed.
‘And for all the queer kids in the Midwest watching right now: I see you, I understand you because I am one of you and don’t ever let anyone tell you that you can’t be exactly what you want to be.’
Chappell also thanked ‘the fans who listen to me when I share my joy and my fears,’ in her acceptance speech.
Last month, the pop star asserted her boundaries on social media after experiencing alarming behavior from people who claimed to be her fans.
‘For the past 10 years I’ve been going non-stop to build my project and it’s come to the point that I need to draw lines and set boundaries. I want to be an artist for a very very long time,’ she wrote in a seven-slide post shared on Instagram.

She continued: ‘I’ve been in too many nonconsensual physical and social interactions and I just need to lay it out and remind you, women don’t owe you shit.
‘I chose this career path because I love music and art and honoring my inner child, I do not accept harassment of any kind because I chose this path, nor do I deserve it.’
In September 2023, the rising star – who identifies as a lesbian – released her debut album The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess.
It earned her just 2.51million on-demand streams through January 4, 2024, in the US, according Luminate via Billboard.
However when touring with her friend Olivia Rodrigo on the Guts tour, Chappell began drawing huge crowds at American summer festivals Coachella, Governors Ball and Lollapalooza.
