The radio hosts on the receiving end of Keith Urban’s abrupt interview exit have come clean about the awkward exchange.
Urban, 57, seemingly ‘hung up’ on Mix 102.3’s Hayley Pearson and Max Burford on Tuesday, after Burford asked an off-colour question about the rocker’s wife Nicole Kidman, 58.
The rocker was in good spirits as he chatted to the hosts about his upcoming tour, revealing that it’s ‘always a good time’ performing in Adelaide, where the radio show is based.
Things went south after Urban agreed to play the show’s signature game Wall of Truth, with Burford asking a question about his wife’s love scenes on screen, which saw him promptly leave the Zoom call.
‘I watched a movie with her and Zac Efron recently, A Family Affair, and I thought, ‘what does Keith Urban think when he sees his beautiful wife with beautiful younger men like Zac Efron, having these beautiful love scenes on TV?’ Burford asked, which was met with complete silence.

Quickly realising Urban was no longer on the line, Pearson said: ‘He hates us. I knew that was going to happen.’
However, the radio duo came clean about the awkward exchange to listeners on Wednesday.
They even enlisted the help of Mix 102.3’s content director, Stephen Werner, to clear the air.
He said that, rather than Urban being offended by the awkward line of questioning, the interview had simply run its course.
‘The producers were getting texts, and you guys were having such a great time that you ran out of time,’ he said, adding that the singer went straight to another interview.
Surprised by the revelation, Pearson asked: ‘Hang on, so are you telling us this has made international news, and it’s not even a story because he didn’t hang up on us?
‘Are you saying that Keith doesn’t hate us?’
The content director replied that it was unlikely that Urban had a hateful bone in his body.

‘Well, I haven’t spoken to him, but I don’t think Keith hates anybody, really. He seems like a pretty nice guy,’ he said.
Burford quipped: ‘So it’s just the entire internet that hates us, not Keith.’
The radio duo’s admission comes as an Urban insider revealed to People that the apparent communication breakdown had been blown out of proportion.
‘Keith did not hang up, period,’ the source said.
‘He doesn’t host his Zoom interviews. This is a complete nothingburger.’
The film in question, A Family Affair proved not to be a hit with critics, with claims later emerging that Urban was ‘secretly’ pleased about its poor reception.
An insider told New Idea that it didn’t sit right with the country star, seeing his wife get cosy with Zac, after the pair last portrayed lovers 12 years ago in the buzzy crime drama The Paperboy.

‘Are you saying that Keith doesn’t hate us?’ Pearson asked, to which Werner replied: ‘Well, I haven’t spoken to him, but I don’t think Keith hates anybody, really. He seems like a pretty nice guy’
‘He absolutely trusts Nicole but it unnerved him seeing her get so cosy with Zac on screen a second time around,’ the source said.
‘She likely won’t be doing a third, which, deep down, has made Keith happy to no end — something he’s having to keep to himself of course!’
Urban and Kidman marked nearly two decades of marriage in June this year.
The lovebirds wed back in 2006 during a traditional Catholic ceremony at the Cardinal Cerretti Chapel, in her hometown of Sydney.
They married five years after Kidman split from actor Tom Cruise, with whom she shares two adopted children, Isabella and Connor.
The happy couple share daughters Sunday Rose, 16, and Faith Margaret, 14.
