Radio Duo Axed Amid Keith Urban Controversy

Another radio show has been axed from the airwaves, marking the second program in the last week to get the boot.

Australian Radio Network (ARN) revealed on Monday that Hayley & Max in the Morning would air on Mix102.3 in Adelaide for the last time on December 12.

The show, which has been hosted by Max Burford and Hayley Pearson since the beginning of the year, set tongues wagging in July after Keith Urban hung up mid-interview following a question about his now-former wife Nicole Kidman.

The rocker was in good spirits as he chatted to the hosts, revealing that it’s ‘always a good time’ performing in Adelaide, where the radio show is based.

However, when Keith agreed to play the show’s signature game Wall of Truth, things seemed to take a turn for the worse.

‘What does Keith Urban think when he sees his beautiful wife with beautiful younger men like Zac Efron, having these beautiful love scenes on TV?’ Max asked, which was met with complete silence.

The crew soon realised they had offended Keith, who had left the call.

‘His team hung up on us as they didn’t want us to ask that question,’ one person could be heard saying.

‘I thought we were vibing with Keith… Do we have beef with Keith Urban now?’ Max joked at the time.

Flash forward to now, ARN shared a statement to Mediaweek revealing that the decision to say goodbye to Hayley & Max in the Morning was part of a bigger plan to differentiate the station from its competitors.

‘In 2026, the station will launch a new live and local breakfast show as part of a refreshed whole station strategy focused on bolder content and bigger moments that really set the station apart,’ a representative said.

It comes after it was announced that KIIS 97.3’s Brisbane breakfast show Robin, Kip & Corey Oates would be leaving airwaves at the end of the year, just a couple of months after the former Brisbane Broncos star signed on.

ARN revealed that the show’s final broadcast would also air on December 12.

A spokesperson went on to praise hosts Robin Bailey, Kip Wightman and Corey Oates for their ‘hard work, creativity and commitment to the Brisbane audience’.

‘Their contribution has been significant and will be celebrated in the weeks ahead,’ the statement added.

They went on to reveal that the program would be replaced in the new year with a fresh breakfast show that is ‘bold, entertaining and fast-moving’.

An internal email, seen by Mediaweek, revealed that ARN ‘can’t reveal details just yet’ of the new show or its potential hosts.

However, an official announcement for the new breakfast show will be made at the ARN Upfronts this week.
