BBC Radio 1 DJ Katie Thistleton has revealed that she was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery – just six weeks after giving birth to her baby boy.
The 35-year-old, who welcomed her first child, Reuben, last month, shared with followers that she had been left in agonising pain due to a huge cyst on her ovary, which had to be removed urgently.
She told her followers: ‘So l’m six weeks postpartum today and was so excited to be officially recovered from c section and drive again etc
‘But ended up having emergency surgery on my ovary a couple of days ago for a 16cm (huge) cyst that had twisted the ovary and tube.
‘Guys when I tell you the pain was insane, if they’d offered to shoot me in the head I’d have taken it. Luckily they managed to save the ovary after thinking it might need to go.’
After the surgery update, Katie reassured her followers that she was now back home, sharing a sweet video of baby Reuben playing on his playmat.

Prior to joining Radio 1, Katie was known for presenting CBBC HQ and the CBBC Book Club.
She first announced her pregnancy in October during a quiz with her colleagues, who were left squealing with surprise.
She said: ‘I’ve got a question for you guys and that is: What is the last message that you were sent on WhatsApp. So if you could all open your WhatsApps, please.’
As they expressed their shock, Katie explained: ‘I’ve just sent Matt and Mollie a scan photo and a message saying me and Alex are having a baby.
‘I was so scared that that would go wrong, like the WiFi wouldn’t send it.’

Announcing her pregnancy, Katie shared a montage of her and Alex’s engagement and wedding, as well as the couple holding up their scan photo
The Saturdays star Mollie, who was expecting her second child Liliana with fiancé Stuart Broad at the time, was particularly excited by the news, with Katie revealing she’d been wanting to spill the beans to her fellow mum-to-be.
She shared: ‘I mean, oh my god Mollie I’ve wanted to talk to you about this so much.
‘There was a day when you walked past us and I was like, ‘how are you and you were like, ‘I’ve been so sick’ and I was thinking, ‘me too I’m so sick but I can’t tell anyone yet’. But yeah, I’m due in March so not that far behind you really.’
After the on-air reveal, Katie confirmed the news on Instagram with a video montage captioned: ‘We’ve been married three gorgeous years today, feels like a good time to announce the next chapter. Watch for a surprise.’
