Pulp singer Jarvis Cocker has detailed his very unusual choice of wedding venue and revealed why he chose to pop the question in the middle of a traffic jam.
The longest-standing member of the band, 61, made the revelation on The Jonathan Ross Show on Friday as he discussed his recent nuptials which took place in a circus.
Jarvis said he had been planning to pop the question to his partner of 15 years, creative consultant Kim Sion, while on holiday but ‘something stopped me’.
He said: ‘We’d been to Mexico.
‘I thought about it a lot there, but something stopped me.
‘We were in a traffic jam near Shepherd’s Bush and the conversation stopped and I thought, “I’ll do it now…”‘

The singer went on to joke: ‘When the muse speaks to you, you have to answer.’
From that moment on, everything that was to follow about the union was incredibly unconventional in terms of location.
He added: ‘We got married at the circus. It was good. I was thinking of learning a circus skill, but I didn’t manage to do that.
‘But I did enlist people from the circus to help for the introduction to the party [on the day].’
Jarvis also admitted that as an ‘older man’, he didn’t think it was appropriate to have a conventional stag do.
Instead, he held a party at a cement works of all places, which even included a tour of the facility.
He said: ‘Being an older man, I wasn’t going to do the normal thing, so I had my stag do at a cement works.
‘It’s got a really nice social club. We had a tour round and we saw the furnace and the quarry and everything. We were cementing a very important event…’

Jarvis admitted: ‘We just decided to see how many songs we could write and ended up with a record.’
The singer was also happy to discuss his famously quirky style and the many eye-popping outfits he’s worn over the decades.
He said: ‘When I first started clothes for myself it was jumble sales…. You could get a whole bin bag of things for 10p, so I could experiment.
‘Sometimes it would fail, but you try things. It would be like people’s reaction, if people laughed as I walked past, I’d think, ‘I won’t wear that again’.
‘I evolved through that.’
