Prue Leith shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
At 85-years-old, Prue has definitely declared she won’t be the ‘oldie who sits in a corner and knits’.
Instead, Prue has shared her recipe for later life – ditching exercise, dressing boldly and prioritising her marriage to husband John Playfair.
In an extract from her new book Being Old…And Learning To Love It, by Prue Leith, she revealed her secrets to staying young.
She wrote: ‘My parents’ generation, and many of mine, imbibed the idea that once we’re past 60, all sorts of things are ‘inappropriate’ for us: dancing, sitting on a bar stool, wearing pillar-box red, smoking weed.
‘They seem to think we should all wear beige, sit in a corner and knit. I think they were brainwashed. They got the wrong idea of their worth, concurring with the idea that oldies should be neither seen nor heard.

‘That we should dress as unobtrusively as possible, that we should stop thinking about romance, love and sex, that we are too old to be of any use to anyone, and that we should devote ourselves to good causes and ungrateful grandchildren.’
She added: ‘I find exercise for the sake of exercise painful and unbelievably boring. Being tortured on a pilates reformer machine, forcing oneself out into the rain to go running or doing push-ups on the bedroom floor are all variations of hell for me.
Prue’s book Being Old…And Learning To Love It goes on sale February 26.
She proved she’s showing no sign of slowing down when she debuted a very bold look during London Fashion Week in 2024.
The broadcaster strutted down the catwalk during the Vin + Omi show at The Kensington Building.
Beaming in snaps, the tight fitted PVC midi dress featured raunchy red lace up detailing and exaggerated wide shoulders.
The star accessorised the look with some black leather trainers and matching leather gloves as she switched the kitchen for the stage.
Ditching her glasses, Prue opted for intense smoky eye makeup and a bold red lip.

Speaking about ditching the kitchen and trying something new, she told Heat magazine: ‘Because I’m so near the end, I’m a bit more reckless now. What’s the worst that can happen?
‘If I was about to get a job on Bake Off I probably wouldn’t walk down a catwalk in Latex with goth makeup on, but now it’s too late. If I want to do it and it sounds like good fun I just think, why not?’
Prue also revealed that she can no longer do gardening in her free time as she is getting ‘old’ and finds it ‘too tiring’.
She said: ‘I used to do a lot of gardening but I don’t do as much now, I’m more likely to fall over because I’m old and get too tired.
