Prince Naseem Hamed joined Pierce Brosnan as they playfully wrestled on the red carpet of the UK gala screening of Giant on Wednesday in London.

The boxing champion, 51, appeared in top spirits as he joined the Hollywood A-lister to celebrate the movie based on his success in the ring at Picturehouse Central.

For the star-studded outing, Prince Naseem wore a navy blue robe, layered under a fur-trimmed winter coat.

He completed his red-carpet look with a long, knitted grey scarf and black trainers.

Alongside him, Pierce shielded himself from the cold weather as he layered a black turtleneck jumper under a black suit.

Pierce plays boxing trainer Brendan Ingle in the biopic, which follows Prince Naseem Hamed’s (played by Amir El-Masry) road to becoming a world champion.

The film has been produced by Rocky star Sylvester Stallone and written and directed by Rowan Athale.

Giant tells the compelling true-life story of the British-Yemeni boxer and his rags-to-riches ascent in the tough working-class streets of Sheffield, as well as his discovery by Brendan, himself a steel industry worker turned boxing trainer.

The film will see the boxer become a world champion under the management of the Irish-born boxing trainer.

Brendan and Prince Naseem’s unlikely partnership, along with Naz’s unorthodox style, cocky persona and sheer dominance in the ring, propelled them to the top of boxing’s elite and unprecedented levels of stardom, all in the face of racism in the 80’s and 90’s in Britain.

Prince Naseem was famous for his flamboyant entrances to the boxing ring and his lightning-speed fighting style.

His most notorious entrances included him flying over an arena on a flying carpet, driving up in a car, being carried on a palanquin and re-enacting Michael Jackson’s thriller video.

Prince Naseem – who stands at only 5 ft 4 and weighed less than 10 stone in his heyday – was also renowned for somersaulting his way into the ring.

He became Britain’s youngest world champion in 1995, at the age of just 21, winning 36 of his 37 professional fights, with only one loss, to Marco Antonio Barrera in 2001.

The sportsman first started piling on the pounds after he was involved in a serious car accident in 2006.

He was jailed for causing the 90-mph three-car collision, in which another driver suffered fractures to every major bone in his body.

The star left prison after 16 weeks looking noticeably bigger.

Following his retirement from the sport, he oversees a management company with offices in LA and London.

The film is scheduled for release in the UK and Ireland on January 9.
