Netflix viewers have gone into meltdown after discovering German thriller Dark, branding the series ‘out of this world’.
With fans ranking the show among the streaming platform’s biggest hits such as Breaking Bad, Netflix’s first German-speaking original show has received rave reviews from fans online.
Located in the sleepy German town of Winden, a series of strange events are sparked after two children go missing.
Following the disappearances of the town’s children, secrets and trauma spanning across four generations and four families begins to bubble to the surface.
Kicking off in 2019, Mikkel Nielsen (Dan Lennard Liebrenz) makes his way into a cave located near a nuclear plant.

But the youngster accidentally travels back in time to 1986 via a wormhole after following his future son Jonas Kahnwald (Louis Hofmann) into the cave.
Jonas was attempting to save his father – who had taken his own life – and prevent his own birth after he discovered Mikkel had accidentally travelled into the past as a child.
However Jonas’ efforts prove futile as Noah (Mark Waschke), who poses as a priest in an attempt to use young boys for time travel experiments, gets in the way.
After Mikkel is abandoned in the past, the fractured relationships and double lives of the Kahnwald, Nielsen, Doppler and Tiedermann families in 1953, 1986 and 2019 are exposed.
As season two sees many families attempt to reunite with their loved ones, the small German town faces a much greater problem – an apocalypse.
The third season, which launched in 2020, saw the show become even more complex as a parallel universe was brought into the fold alongside the end of the world.
Several of the town’s youngsters team up in a bid to break the time travelling loop and restore the town’s original reality.
However in the process of attempting to undo generations of overlapping time travelling, they eradicated everyone born as a result of time hopping.
