Spencer Matthews Reconnects with Family after Desert Challenge

Spencer Matthews has revealed that he finally feels ‘part of his family again’ following his epic desert challenge.

The former Made in Chelsea star, 36, is back in the UK after running an astonishing 30 marathons in 30 days in the scorching heat of the Jordanian desert.

And Spencer has officially raised a staggering £511,870.46 for Global’s Make Some Noise in the process.

After achieving the incredible goal he has now told how it has helped mend years of ‘disappointment’ his family – including his parents – had in him due to his drinking.

Spencer is now sober after a ‘dark period in his life’ where binge drinking took over and negatively impacted his physical and mental health.

He told The Mirror: ‘I feel part of the family again. My family have never been more proud of me and I’ve longed for that. When I had that dark period of my life with the booze… you can tell when your parents are disappointed.

‘I’ve lived with a lot of disappointment within my family. Love, but disappointment. What a shame you’re not fulfilling the potential we know you have. What a shame you go out so often and don’t put time into who you could become.

‘But now there’s only proud hugs. My family are incredible, they’ve never turfed or left me out and it’s always been good between us. Just things are better now. I’ve been carrying around a lot of shame and it’s so nice to be free of it.’

He added that completing the challenge brought both his parents to tears and that he has earned the respect of his brother James – who is married to Pippa Middleton.

Last week Spencer was officially awarded his Guinness World Record as he was welcomed back to Global HQ for the Heart Breakfast show.

As Spencer joined hosts JK and Zoe Hardman it was revealed the star had officially raised a staggering £511,870.46 for Global’s Make Some Noise.

As the incredible sum was announced, Spencer exclaimed: ‘No way! That’s literally sky-rocketed!’

Spencer was then officially awarded his Guinness World Record for most marathon distances run on sand.

After achieving the incredible goal he has now told how it has helped mend years of 'disappointment' his family - including his parents (seen) - had in him due to his drinking

The official confirmed: ‘For the official Guinness World Record title for the most marathon distances completed on sand in one month, I can confirm after checking your evidence, you completed 30 you are officially amazing. Congratulations!’

As the whole room cheered, Spencer joked: ‘Thank you so much. I was just thinking it would be so awkward if he was like ‘actually you came up slightly short’.’

‘Is it fair to say that this is the biggest challenge you’ve ever had to do?’ asked JK.

‘Absolutely,’ confirmed Spencer: ‘Physically, mentally, overall it was one of the greatest experiences of my life and I will always remember it and look back on it really fondly.

‘But it was tough, you know?’

Overwhelmed he continued: ‘That’s insane. To be honest, the whole time that I was out there running, the charities were such a massive driver for me.

‘And, as I said earlier, the support and the generosity shown throughout the challenge was completely overwhelming.

‘And even just the messages on socials, I’ve never felt anything like that level of support for anything in my life. So, I can’t thank you all enough.’

Spencer is hoping the donations will continue to pour in as he added: ‘You know, I see this very much as – we only just finished this, I’m hoping for another few weeks of fundraising now.

‘I’m going to think about ways to continue to raise money for these incredible causes and the great work that Global’s Make Some Noise do.

‘So, if you haven’t yet donated, please consider donating, all your money makes such a big difference to incredible families and children who really deserve the help, so please consider it.’

However, while he pushed his body to the limit and underwent an intense training regime for the incredible feat, Spencer is not done yet as he plans for another world record.

Speaking exclusively to The Mail as he crossed the finish line, the TV personality told how aside from his marriage to Vogue Williams and their three children, the charity marathons were his greatest physical and mental achievements.

He explained: ‘ If you’re excluding things like kids and marrying the perfect woman then yes, of course it is physically. Starting my business was obviously a big deal, but in terms of physical and mental achievement, yes, of course.

‘This is one of the greatest feelings of my life, succeeding in this.’

Spencer is however keen to add more marathons to his already impressive CV, but he doesn’t quite know in what capacity yet.

He shared: ‘I’ll absolutely go after another world record, probably at some point. I’m 36 so this has been awesome. I absolutely will do more in this space.

‘I don’t know what that looks like now, the idea to do this just came to me one evening.’

He added of his initial idea for his 30 marathon task: ‘I was sat there, and I suddenly thought, boom, this is what I want. And we just cracked on and did it. I have not had another moment like that yet, but I’d give it a couple of months.’

For now though, he’s content with enjoying his favourite meal and pampering himself at home.

He added that completing the challenge brought both his parents to tears and that he has earned the respect of his brother James - who is married to Pippa Middleton (seen together)

On what he plans to do first, he said: ‘I’ll go home, probably have a shower. I’m going to have a takeaway with my brother in law on Thursday night. Can’t wait.

‘My favorite restaurant in London is Strakers and Dorian, but don’t tell Straker that, because they’re next door to each other.

He added: ‘This has been a beautiful experience. This isn’t something that I’m looking to recover from. I’m keen to crack on.’

Immy sported an oversized white linen shirt underneath her cardigan, as well as a pair of black wide leg trousers, as her ombre tresses remained in natural curls.

Both actresses opted for barely-there make-up looks at the skincare event, debuting the effects as their faces were glowing.

Another star in attendance at the Clinique event was former The Saturdays band member Vanessa White.

Vanessa, who competed on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Outta Here in 2017, looked smart in an ankle-length tan trenchcoat, which covered blue jeans and brown stilettos.

Heartstopper actress Jenny Walser also turned out for the skincare event, donning a chic relaxed grey two-piece.

Jenny, who plays Charlie Spring’s sister Tori in the hit Netflix show, sported wide leg denim-look trousers, with a matching high-neck top and a tiny black leather handbag.

Another Netflix actress at the event was Amy-Leigh Hickman, who was in the most recent season of You as Nadia Farran but is most well-known for her role as Cameron Howle in Tracy Beaker.

And the streaming service had another star in attendance, as Matilda Broadbridge kept it casual in a white baggy shirt and wide-leg pants.

Matilda was plucked from obscurity to play Pippa Middleton in the final of season Netflix’s acclaimed The Crown.

She beat thousands of other young hopefuls to play the Princess Of Wales’s younger sister in the next series of the show.

Matilda revealed her excitement to her Instagram followers at the time, posting a photo of herself outside her trailer on the set.

Next to it, she wrote: ‘A very short but very sweet trip to crown land. So excited to announce that I’ll be appearing as Pippa Middleton in The Crown Netflix.

‘So grateful to have been a tiny part of this production and for this experience, keep your eyes peeled.’

Ms Broadbridge – who was educated at the £16,000-a-year Royal High School in her home city of Bath – joined Meg Bellamy, who played Kate, and Ed McVey as Prince William.

With no screen credits to her name, Ms Broadbridge was cast after submitting a self-made audition tape.

However she didn’t get to wear that striking bridesmaid’s gown, as the drama only covers the future Waleses’ first year together at St Andrews University in Scotland.

Gary Goldsmith is confident that his niece Kate Middleton will resume public duties by Easter and expresses surprise that she edited her own Mother’s Day photo.

Gary Goldsmith has said he believes his niece Kate Middleton will definitely return to public duties at Easter.

Following abdominal surgery, Kate has remained out of the public eye for two months as she recovers.

It comes as royal insiders claim that The Princess of Wales, 42, is recovering well and will be back by Easter.

Gary appeared on Thursday’s GB News with Nigel Farage following his short-lived stint on Celebrity Big Brother where he chatted about his family.

He said of Kate’s recent health issues: ‘I think she has the best support on the planet, she has the best people looking after her.

‘They [The Palace} have said we would see her at Easter and nothing has changed since that! They have been very transparent.’

He added that he was shocked when Kate revealed it was in fact her that had edited the Mother’s Day picture of her with her three children.

Gary said: ‘I did say when it came out the photo ‘there’s not a chance in hell she photoshopped them herself’ and then it came out that she did!’

Kate publicly took the blame for the family photograph released by Kensington Palace on Sunday as she issued an apology for the ‘confusion’.

It came after a public explosion of conspiracy theories, after six of the world’s top picture agencies including the Press Association then sensationally pulled the photo from their wires and libraries amid concern that the ‘source has manipulated the image’.

Gary also spoke on GB News about his experience in the Celebrity Big Brother house.

He said: ‘I wanted to change perceptions. I’m not a celebrity really. Looking back I looked so uncomfortable in those first few days in the house but everything is down to an edit.

‘Bu it was the best thing I’ve ever done. It was a sneak peak at the celebrity life. They were hoping I would win that vote and not get kicked out!’

Gary spilled royal secrets in the Big Brother house which have ‘infuriated’ his family, as his niece Kate recovers from abdominal surgery.

Despite leaving some viewers cringing with his behaviour, Gary insisted in his exit interview that he ‘achieved his agenda’ while living in the house.

Speaking in his first interview on Late & Live, he said: ‘I’ve had the best time, I went in with one agenda and I’ve achieved it in five days.

‘I don’t consider myself to be a celebrity, I just happen to be related to someone who is a big celebrity.’

When host AJ Odudu asked who Kate would want to win now he has left the house, he replied: ‘Levi Roots, I have so much respect for him, and if he was to win he will use it for good.’

Will asked again: ‘And do you think Kate would agree with that?’

Gary responded ‘100%, she puts other people first’

During Friday’s episode, Gary shocked his housemates by showing an emotional side, while branding himself a ‘national villain.’

Gary said that he has not had ‘true peace’ after he admitted to assaulting his wife.

During a task, housemates are transported to a celestial retreat, Fern Britton questions Gary on whether he had ‘found peace within’.

He replied saying: ‘I think peace is something always to be striving for. I thought I was having a really cool life until something hits you.

‘One day I was Gary, a businessman having a laugh with a great family. And then the next minute, I’m a national villain.

‘So, I don’t really know what true peace is if I’m honest.’

The brother of Kate’s mother, Carole Middleton, was fined £5,000 and given a community order in November 2017 after pleading guilty to one count of assault by beating.

His wife accused him of taking drugs, the court was told, and a London taxi driver witnessed her being knocked to the ground outside their home.

Gary’s inclusion on the show was criticised by Women’s Aid, who said ‘the inclusion of men convicted of abuse in entertainment programmes will already be a sign that these crimes are not taken seriously’ and the charity advised the programme to consider his appearance.

In a statement from the show, he previously said: ‘I’m not perfect and I made a mistake, a personal row seven years ago which was publicly exposed that I’ve worked endlessly for seven years to put right.

‘The offence is long since spent however my regret continues.’

ITV have reportedly been forced to ‘carefully edit’ Gary’s Kate and King Charles remarks on Celebrity Big Brother.

Jennie Bond told the Mirror. ‘Anything that Gary says about the royal family is a headline, it’s great for the show, it’s publicity for ITV.

‘And yet they must be aware that they have a duty to safeguard and protect the health of the person, not to say the royal family obviously.

‘So I imagine they’ve got lawyers looking through it but yep, there will be some careful editing. I think the slightest inkling that they can give about anything that’s going on about the royal family – with the Harry situation Catherine’s health or the King’s health they’ll do their damndest to show.’

Gary, who made his money in recruitment and was once worth £30million, is thought to have been kept at arm’s length by the Middleton’s in recent years.

This is despite him attending William and Kate’s wedding in London in 2011 and then that of Kate’s sister Pippa Middleton to James Matthews in Berkshire six years later.

Gary regularly speaks out to support Kate, who is thought to call him ‘Uncle G’, and has previously hailed her as ‘the most spectacular person I have ever met’.

Kate’s mother had harsh words for her brother before he entered the Big Brother house amid fears that he could reveal secrets about the Royal Family.

An insider told The Sun: ‘Gary said he’s been read the riot act by Kate’s mum Carole and her dad Michael. They aren’t happy he’s going into Celebrity Big Brother. It is infuriating to them. Kate doesn’t need this stress.’

During Monday’s explosive launch episode as Gary prepared to enter the house, host AJ Odudu wasted no time in asking him whether his royal niece would be tuning in. Gary joked: ‘She will be hiding behind the sofa if she is watching’.
