Peter Kay has revealed he turned down Netflix’s request for the rights to Phoenix Nights because they wanted to put a trigger warning on it.
The comedian, 52, created the series as a spin-off from an iconic episode of his show That Peter Kay Thing and starred himself and Paddy McGuinness.
It went down a hit with viewers, but in the years since fans have struggled to find anywhere to watch back old episodes.
And they still won’t be able to anytime soon as Peter revealed he said no to Netflix when they asked to add it to the streamer because they wanted him to add a trigger warning at the beginning.
‘Basically, it’s not very politically correct now’, he said of the series on Friday’s Capital Breakfast with Jordan North, Chris Stark and Sian Welby.
Peter also confessed the streaming giant sent him an air fryer as a ‘Christmas gift’ – but he believes it was to try and sweeten him up in the hopes he’d say yes.

He said: ‘I got one (an airfryer) free from Netflix. They got in touch with me last year because they wanted to put Phoenix Nights on Netflix. They rang me up and said, “Can we license some of your shows to put on Netflix?”
‘Anyway, they sent me a load of paperwork. Basically, it’s not very politically correct now. So you know when they put those “This was made in a time [warnings]…” do you know what I mean?’
Peter added: ‘I just said, “I’m not keen on that, I don’t really want a warning before it”. So, I just said, “No, I’ll leave it”. Anyway, they sent me an air fryer.
‘I think that was trying to sweeten me.’
He continued: ‘Anyway this guy, I’ll not say his name, from Netflix, Jon Mountague, he said “What would you like for eh… would you like something for Christmas from Netflix?” I said “I’ll tell you what I’ll have Jon, I’ll have one of them knock off Fire Sticks”. No, kidding.
‘Anyway, the Netflix air fryer arrived. It was a Phillips air fryer, it weren’t even a Ninja one. But I was grateful.
‘But I think if you’re gonna get one Sian get a Ninja one. It had stickers everywhere on it saying Netflix. Netflix stickers all over it which I thought were quite funny.
‘It broke. It broke last year.’

It comes after Cat Deeley was left stunned on Thursday after Peter called her out for an interview habit in the middle of a live chat on This Morning – leaving fans thrilled.
The presenter, who co-hosts the ITV daytime series alongside Ben Shephard, was joined by the comedian to discuss his tour, Better Late Than Never.
Peter opened up on his decision to donate all the money made from the tour to a series of cancer charities as he sat down with Cat, 49, and Ben, 50.
He went on to list all of the 12 charities the money would go to on the tour, which has been extended for even more dates after first starting in 2022.
Among the charities listed were the Teenage Cancer Trust, Kidney Cancer UK, Blood Cancer UK, Bowel Cancer UK and Prostate Cancer UK.
But as the comic was listing of the names, written down on a piece of paper so he could remember their names, he let out a chuckle in Cat’s direction as he noticed she kept responding ‘yes’ to each charity name.
‘My tour has been on a while,’ he told the hosts. ‘I am doing extra shows and they are all for 12 charities which are, Children with Cancer UK, the Teenage Cancer Trust, Kidney Cancer UK, Blood Cancer UK, Bowel Cancer…
‘I’m not laughing at bowel cancer, it’s because she keeps saying, “yeah”.’
Looking embarrassed, Cat began to giggle and turned her face away, as Ben stepped in: ‘It’s called active listening, my wife does it and it drives me mad.’
Looking down the lens of the camera, Peter then joked: ‘Well, if you’ve got any issues with that and you want to ring up…?’ before continuing to list the charities.
