Lisa Wilkinson could not wipe the smile of pride off her face as her eldest child married this weekend.

The television star’s son, Jake, 30, married Sydney Morning Herald journalist Mary Ward in Sydney in a low-key wedding shared to social media by his younger sister.

In posts on Instagram made by journalist Billi, 26, Lisa beamed as she cuddled up to her daughter at the family event.

‘The bestest weekend for the eldest brother’ Billi wrote in her caption alongside the series of photos and short video.

Other images showed Jake and his blushing bride posing outside their wedding venue before heading into a relaxed reception.

A clip depicted the pair dancing into their reception holding hands as a small group of family and friends applauded.

Jake’s father Peter FitzSimons also beamed in photos shared by Billi, the family appearing in excellent spirits despite recent hardships.

Lisa frocked up for the occasion in a bold red gown with a floral design and a retro feel.

Billi also looked glamorous in a bright orange, sleeveless column dress with a ruffled feature at the front.

She attended with her new boyfriend, finance whiz kid and former bartender Jared Ellison.

Groom Jake was smart in a classic tuxedo while his bride Mary opted for a high fashion wedding gown with a pointed bodice and fairytale sleeve puffs.

Mary is a seasoned journalist who has worked for the Sydney Morning Herald,  HuffPost, MSN Australia, Good Food, The Daily Beast and The Age.

Jake is also active in the media as Editor of Commander’s Herald, as well as a historical researcher with Woosel.

Lisa and broadcaster Peter, who married in 1992, share three adult children, sons Jake and Louis, 28 and daughter Billi.

The TV host previously expressed her joy in ‘defying the people who said they wouldn’t last’ after she and Peter walked down the aisle in 1992 nine months after they first met.

‘When Pete and I met way back at Xmas in 1991, there were many – including my sweet, protective mum – who said we wouldn’t last,’ she said in an Instagram post.

‘[We] are still defying those who thought we wouldn’t make it.’

Last year, it was revealed that Lisa’s daughter is following in her parents’ footsteps in the media, being appointed ‘editor-in-chief’ of social media news site The Daily Aus.

Billi FitzSimons announced the promotion after having previously been an editor.

‘I’m looking forward to growing our diverse content offerings, including podcasting, polling, video and newsletters,’ she wrote.

‘We have big plans this year, and I can’t wait for you to see what we have in store.’

The Daily Aus is a social media-based news aggregator with over 500,000 followers on Instagram.

It targets Gen Z and Millennials with easy-to-digest news stories and explainer articles.

‘RAHHH!’, her father Peter FitzSimons – the former rugby international turned writer – posted in response to the news.

Journalism runs in the family – Wilkinson started editing women’s magazine Dolly at the age of 21, where she reportedly tripled the circulation.

After this impressive feat, she was personally approached by billionaire news magnate Kerry Packer to head up women’s lifestyle magazine, Cleo.

Wilkinson went on to forge a successful career in television journalism, hosting the Today show and later becoming a panellist on The Project.

However, her career has stalled amidst the ongoing fallout of her controversial interview with former Liberal staffer Brittany Higgins, and has not been seen on TV in some time.

While not be on the same scale as her mother, FitzSimons has had to deal with her fair share of turbulence since first landing the role as editor of The Daily Aus before her 25th birthday.

In June 2022, the website photoshopped the German flag on the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, rather than the Aboriginal flag, which also contains red, yellow and black.

Just a day later FitzSimons posted a job listing looking for a fact checker who has ‘meticulous attention to detail’.

The youngster has been listed as one of Australia’s ‘nepo babies’ given she is the offspring of journalistic royalty.

Her mother got FitzSimons her first job as a writer on news website Mamamia when she was still at university by calling in a favour with her old protégé Mia Freedman.

FitzSimons worked for Mamamia throughout university before landing a job as a political writer at the Daily Aus straight after graduating.

She gained a Bachelor of Arts (Media and Communications), Government and International Relations, Digital Cultures from the University of Sydney in 2019.

But not everything has been handed to FitzSimons.

Her father previously revealed how she used to toil part-time at Domino’s for four years from the age of 14 to earn money while at school.

It comes after news that Lisa wants to make a return to TV screens following months of inaction and tedious weeks spent in a courtroom, sources say.

The Channel 10 star and former darling of breakfast TV is keen to get back to delivering more ‘blockbuster interviews’ in the New Year, friends told the Weekend Australian.

Wilkinson quit The Project in November, 2022 and she hasn’t appeared on TV in a regular role since.

Lisa also recently shared a cryptic post to social media revealing she was ready for ‘new beginnings’.

After two years of gardening leave to the tune of $1.7million a year, her time at Channel Ten ended with a whimper over the Christmas holidays.

Her multi-year contract lapsed on New Year’s Eve and wasn’t renewed.

Lisa joined the network in 2018 after an infamous pay dispute at Nine when she discovered her Today co-host Karl Stefanovic was earning significantly more than her.

Everything was going well when she signed a new deal with Ten in 2021.

But just a year later, she stepped down as host of The Project—her sole on-air role—citing the toll of ‘relentless, targeted’ media coverage.

In the two years since vanishing from our screens, she continued to collect a monthly paycheck from Ten, commercial TV’s forgotten child, despite industry-wide cutbacks.

Lisa has since since been slowly building back her public image, as the embattled TV star made quiet appearances at red carpet events in recent months, and last year showed up at a trendy influencer shindig.

She surprised guests at the launch of wellness brand Vegamour’s new GRO+ Advanced Hair Serum at Bondi Icebergs, the Daily Telegraph reported.

It was the latest in a string of appearances in an effort for Lisa to ‘ease back into the Sydney social scene’ the publication claimed.

Lisa Wilkinson has paid tribute to her beloved husband Peter FitzSimons on Father’s Day.

The embattled television star shared a post to Instagram on Sunday in which she enjoyed a fancy lunch date with Peter, 63.

She wrote in the caption: ‘Happy Father’s Day to my favourite dad. Our absolute rock.’

The television star donned a trendy denim bucket hat for the outing, along with a white top under a black blazer.

She finished the look with a pair of cream trousers and stacks of gold accessories.

Lisa made a rare red carpet appearance at the opening night of Sunset Boulevard in Sydney on Saturday.

She appeared in excellent spirits as she made a glamorous entrance at the Sydney Opera House.

She added a pair of chic silk trousers in a wide cut in an alluring blush shade of rose gold.

Wilkinson quit The Project last November and despite remaining on the Ten payroll until the end of 2024, she hasn’t appeared on the channel for over a year.

Despite her lengthy hiatus from the network, Wilkinson has remained in the public eye through her role in a highly-publicised defamation trial.

She was embroiled in a case with Bruce Lehrmann who was suing Network 10 and Wilkinson over an interview with Brittany Higgins that was broadcast on The Project and online.

In the final five weeks of the court’s sitting year the defamation case has played out before the court. Justice Lee has reserved his decision in the matter.

Friends of Wilkinson say her court appearances have played in her favour by giving the TV star ‘a constant stream of publicity’.

‘Yes, she’s been off air for a while but I don’t think anyone will have forgotten her,’ former Seven and Nine executive Peter Meakin told the Weekend Australian.

‘I’m sure her loyal followers will remain loyal.’

Network Ten maintains they are in talks to develop ‘other projects’ with Wilkinson.

Debate over National Anthem and Dylan Wright’s State of Origin Performance

Peter FitzSimons has called for the Australian national anthem to be changed after  Dylan Wright’s performance at the State of Origin divided viewers on Wednesday.

The 2024 Australian Idol winner delivered a stripped-down, guitar-based rendition of Advance Australia Fair to a packed house at Accor Stadium in Sydney.

Following the performance, Peter insisted on changing the anthem after one viewer slammed the singer’s interpretation of the song.

‘I thought the rendition of our National Anthem was awful. Why not just stick to what it’s meant to sound like!’ they wrote on X.

Peter reposted the comment and said: ‘Either that, or get a decent anthem to work with, and there can only be one choice: I am, you are, we are Australian.’

Other viewers also took umbrage with the singer’s ‘diabolical’, ‘hipster’ interpretation of the anthem written by Scottish-born Australian composer Peter Dodds.

However, other stars including Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O Henderson defended Dylan’s ‘remarkable’ performance.

‘That is remarkable. The football crowd will let you know immediately if you are doing the right thing or the wrong thing and they loved it,’ Kyle said on Thursday.

Jackie agreed, adding: ‘I think that guy should sing the anthem at every single event there is.’

Australian Idol singer Ricki-Lee Coulter also praised Peter’s performance on Instagram, writing: ‘Absolutely nailed it!!!!!’

‘Can we make that version the official anthem from now on?’ added another.

‘That anthem, though…. I absolutely loved it,’ commented a third alongside a red love heart emoji.

‘Ok I actually like this acoustic version of the anthem,’ added one more.

‘Quite possibly the best rendition of the national anthem I’ve ever heard,’ wrote another.

Nigella Lawson Congratulates Lisa Wilkinson on Defamation Victory Against Bruce Lehrmann

British TV chef Nigella Lawson has shared her support for Lisa Wilkinson after she won her defamation case against Bruce Lehrmann.

Lehrmann sued Network Ten and Wilkinson for defamation over a February 2021 report on The Project, where Brittany Higgins claimed he raped her in a Parliament House office almost two years prior.

Federal Court Justice Michael Lee ruled in Network 10’s favour on Monday, determining that its report was truthful in its allegations against Lehrmann.

A few short hours after the verdict was read, Lawson took to X, formerly Twitter, to congratulate Wilkinson.

‘So proud of Lisa Wilkinson. And so relieved for all of us,’ she wrote.

Peter FitzSimons, Wilkinson’s husband, responded to Lawson by simply writing: ‘Thank you, Nigella.’

Wilkinson and Lawson have interacted several times, including in 2016 when Wilkinson had a ‘girl crush’ moment with the celebrity chef.

She had shared a selfie of her and Lawson cooking a recipe from her cookbook, Simply Nigella.

Lawson also recently shared the love under an Instagram post Wilkinson had captioned: ‘Some days are diamonds.’

Lawson commented: ‘And some people are Diamonds!’

Justice Lee on Monday told the court that ‘Mr Lehrmann raped Ms Higgins’.

His finding was made by the civil court standard – the balance of probabilities, rather than beyond reasonable doubt, the criminal court standard.

Outside court, a vindicated Ms Wilkinson said: ‘Today the Federal court has found that I published a true story about a rape at a federal politician’s office in March 2019.

‘I sincerely hope the judgment gives strength to women around the country.

‘I’m also so grateful to have had the benefit of our independent legal team’.

She thanked her barrister Sue Chrysanthou KC for her ‘expertise and wise counsel’ that have been a ‘source of ongoing strength to me for the past 14 months.’

Wilkinson also thanked her family and friends and ‘generous’ members of the public who often approach her in tears.

‘Throughout every step of this process I have been surrounded by the love of my incredibly supportive family.

‘As well as incredibly supportive friends and colleagues. I can never thank them enough.

‘I also wanted to say how grateful I am to members of the public who approached me almost every single day to express often through tears their unwavering support.’

Wilkinson’s husband Peter FitzSimons tweeted that he was ‘very proud’.

Bruce Lehrmann didn't say a word as he charged through the press pack following the ruling from Justice Lee

Bruce Lehrmann didn’t say a word as he charged through the press pack following the ruling from Justice Lee

In contrast, Lehrmann didn’t say a word as he charged through the press pack following the ruling.

The former Liberal staffer sat with his head bowed while listening to the judge’s findings.

‘He was a 23-year-old male cheating on his girlfriend, having just ‘hooked up’ with a woman he found sexually attractive,’ Justice Lee said.

‘Human experience suggests what he then wanted to happen is not exactly shrouded in mystery.’

The judge said Lehrmann was ‘hellbent on having sex with a woman he found sexually attractive, had been mutually passionately kissing and touching … and knew had reduced inhibition.’

‘He did not care one way or the other whether Ms Higgins understood or consented to what was going on.

Justice Lee determined that, contrary to Lehrmann’s evidence, sexual intercourse did occur, and that Ms Higgins did not consent.

‘I am convinced that sexual intercourse took place,’ the judge said.

Justice Lee said Mr Lehrmann was ‘on top’ of Ms Higgins and that she was unable to remove herself from the couch.

Mr Lehrmann launched defamation proceedings after the criminal trial fell through. The judge said of that decision: ‘Having escaped the lion’s den, Mr Lehrmann made the mistake to come back for his hat’

If the 28-year-old had won his defamation case, he would only have been entitled to a ‘very modest’ amount of $20,000 in damages given the limited nature of any hurt from Ten’s reporting, Justice Lee said.

While a Logies speech by Lisa Wilkinson over The Project segment derailed criminal proceedings against Lehrmann and denied him the right to a fair trial, this gave his legal team more time to attack Ms Higgins’ allegations.

The criminal trial against Lehrmann was abandoned in 2022 with no findings made against him.

‘Having escaped the lions’ den, Mr Lehrmann made the mistake of going back for his hat,’ Justice Lee said.

Justice Lee described both Lehrmann and Ms Higgins as ‘unreliable historians’ when recounting what occurred on that fateful night.

The judge said Ms Higgins had been loose with the truth regarding allegations made to Ten in 2021 that members of the then-coalition government had sought to silence her in reporting the alleged rape.

But Justice Lee found that any incorrect statements made to the police in 2019 were not inconsistent with remarks being made by a genuine victim of sexual assault.

The judge found any of Brittany Higgins' incorrect statements to police in 2019 explicable

The judge found any of Brittany Higgins’ incorrect statements to police in 2019 explicable

The judge also slammed Ten for its conduct after Wilkinson made a Logie speech where she hailed Higgins’ courage just eight-days before the criminal trial of Lehrmann.

The judge pointed out that Ms Wilkinson did seek advice, but Network Ten failed her by suggesting she deliver the speech in support of Ms Higgins.

‘The conduct of Ten … was grossly improper and unjustifiable.’

Exploring Lisa Wilkinson and Peter FitzSimons’ $70m Property Holdings: An Opulent Six-Bedroom Estate and a Luxurious Harbor View Apartment

Lisa Wilkinson may have been absent from television screens for a year.

But the former Project host is hardly doing it tough, as she boasts a property portfolio worthy worth more than most people earn in a lifetime.

The TV host, 64, and her journalist husband Peter FitzSimons, 62, have amassed an impressive profile of luxury homes over the years, with an expert valuing their current portfolio as being worth up to $70million.

The couple and their three children live in a sprawling six-bedroom estate worth up to $40million in Sydney’s well-to-do Cremorne.

They reported paid just $1.4million for the home and have undergone extensive renovations including adding a huge master bedroom wing overlooking Sydney Harbour.

Lisa and Peter also own a second property next door, which is estimated to be worth another $20million.

Speaking to Woman’s Day magazine on Monday, a leading real estate agent claimed Lisa and Peter could pocket up to $70million if they sold both homes as one large piece of land.

‘They could put whatever price they want on their property,’ the expert began.

The home once belonged to her late mother, Beryl who reportedly bought it for $388,000 in 1996.

After her mother’s death in 2018, Lisa’s brothers Kyle and Brett sold her their share of the property to her for $275,000 each.
