It was only a matter of time.
Since we began covering the tawdry saga of Dr David Hurst a few weeks ago, we have received dozens of tips from Perth’s most incorrigible gossips advising us that the City of Light is a hotbed of under-reported rumours, feuds and scandal.
And with the local press over there being about as inquisitive as a lampshade, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to be the new Mecca of WA tattle.
Now, thanks to well-placed sources deep within the Claremont and Cottesloe set, we’ve secured a meticulously compiled list revealing who’s in, who’s out and who’s barely clinging on among Perth’s power players.
Following the runaway success of our rankings for Melbourne, the Gold Coast and Sydney’s eastern suburbs, here it is: the definitive Perth society tier list.
The A-list

George and Danielle Kailis
Leading figures in Western Australia’s renowned Kailis family – who made their fortune in seafood and pearls – George and Danielle Kailis live a relatively quiet life with their three children and shun the spotlight…
‘But they are hot,’ says our spy. ‘And when they do go out, they are surely the best-looking couple in Perth.’
Through his Kailis Hospitality Group, George oversees a selection of elite beachside venues, including WA Restaurant of the Year Gibney in Cottesloe, as well as The Shorehouse in Swanbourne, and Magic Apple Wholefoods.

George and Danielle Kailis (pictured at their Swanbourne home) shun the spotlight but everyone knows they are at the top of the social latter
Meanwhile, Danielle is a former Vogue cover girl and international model.
The Stokes family
The Stokes Family are at the top of the Perth social ladder, no doubt. Patriarch Kerry Stokes, 84, has deep roots in Western Australia and is considered among the state’s biggest employers.
His first job was installing TV antennas in Perth before he spent the ’60s and ’70s delving into property development. There is even a range of shopping centres in the western capital that he developed with partners Jack Bendat and Kevin Merifield.
But nowadays, Kerry is best known as the chairman of the Seven West Media empire which boasts media assets like Channel Seven and The West Australian. His net worth sits at an eye-watering $12.69billion, making him the tenth-richest Australian.
His personal life has become tabloid fodder over the years, with four marriages under his belt. Kerry first married Dorothy ‘Dot’ Ebert in 1960 and they had two children, Russell and Raelene, but he is now believed to be estranged from his first family.

The media mogul went on to marry his receptionist Denise Bryant in the 1970s, with whom he had two sons, Ryan and Bryant, before she left him and moved overseas. Ryan is the heir apparent, running his father’s media and construction conglomerate, SGH, formerly known as Seven Group Holdings.
Australian TV actress Peta Toppano became Kerry’s third wife in 1992. They lasted for just three years before they split up. Kerry married his fourth wife Christine Simpson in 1996. She’d been a newsreader for rival station Ten when they first met.
Ginia Rinehart

Ginia Rinehart, 38, worth $2.1billion, has managed to emerge from the shadow of her mining mogul mother Gina, despite being the youngest of four children.
She boasts a degree in business from London, with a major in Spanish, and publicly opted to stay out of the bitter court battle between her mother and siblings.
Bianca, John and Hope are attempting to wrest control of the Hancock trust, established by Gina’s father Lang Hancock, from their mother.
Ginia and her siblings were all beneficiaries of the trust, which owns a substantial stake in mining giant Hancock Prospecting.
However, since the bitter family feud broke out, Bianca and Hope have been cut off, with John yet to receive any income from the trust.
‘It is very painful to have my family’s disagreement argued so publicly in the Supreme Court,’ Ginia, who has sided with her mother, said of the conflict.
‘My loving and hard-working mother has only ever wanted the best for her children.’
Ginia is married to Simon Robinson. They wed in the Whitsundays in 2016.
Rose Porteous

With her fascinating link to Lang Hancock, Filipino-born socialite Rose Porteous (pictured in 2006) simply can’t be left out
Rose Porteous, 76, is an unusual addition to the A-list, but with her fascinating link to Lang Hancock, she simply can’t be left out.
The Filipino-born socialite is best known for her unusual marriage to the late iron ore magnate and her legal battle with his daughter Gina after his death.
Rose is the daughter of Nicolas and Amparo Lacson, and her grandfather was the distinguished Filipino revolutionary and sugar baron Gen. Aniceto Lacson.
Her uncle Arsenio Lacson was the first elected mayor of Manila, while her brother Salvador Lacson is the chairman of Lacson & Lacson Insurance Brokers Inc.
Rose moved to Australia in 1983 on a three-month working visa and landed herself a job as a maid for the newly widowed Lang, who was 39 years her senior.
The pair quickly struck up a romance and tied the knot in Sydney in 1985 – though Lang’s daughter Gina did not attend the wedding.
When Lang died in 1992, Gina took Rose to court over the circumstances of his death and the distribution of her father’s $400million estate. It was eventually settled in 2003 when a coronial inquiry found Lang had died of natural causes.
However, Rose’s legal battles did not end there as she was later sued in 2005 by the Melbourne-based law firm Slater & Gordon.
The company chased up to $14million in unpaid legal fees as a result of Rose’s feud with Gina, with the socialite eventually agreeing to pay the firm $13.25million.

She is the widow of rogue dentist Dr David Hurst, who died last December after siphoning $7.1million out of his Perth dental practice, leaving a trail of creditors and patients with incomplete or botched dental treatment.
Clara is now the executor of his estate and says she did not realise the extent of her husband’s swindling until she was handed the books and discovered his business was insolvent.
It’s a stressful position to be in, no doubt, which is perhaps why she recently decided to take a break from it all by jetting to Europe for six weeks with her children, Sienna, 11, and Will, seven.
Before leaving the country, she was spied at a 40th birthday party joined by the likes of party planner Nina Ma’Belle Wiener and hotel and wine heiress Anna Fogarty.
