Perrie Edwards Reaches Out to Jesy Nelson After Friendship Strain

Perrie Edwards has extended an olive branch to former bandmate Jesy Nelson after she said ‘it was like losing a limb’ when their friendship broke down.

Jesy quit Little Mix in December 2020, saying she found the ‘constant pressure’ of being in a girl group very difficult – she later drifted apart from Perrie, Leigh-Ann Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall.

On Monday, Perrie, 32, showed her support towards Jesy, 34, after she shared an update to Instagram which detailed her struggles with her body image.

In the social media post, she said she finally feels proud of her body after ’33 years of extreme dieting’ – which Perrie liked.

And it did not go unnoticed by Little Mix fans who shared their excitement on X after seeing the small interaction.

They commented: ‘Perrie Edwards liked Jesy Nelsons post on Instagram… I am dreaming?’; ‘ Perrie liked Jesy’s post, mixerland is healing, I can go party with Jade in peace.’

Others added: ‘Perrie just liked Jesy ’s post?? omggggg’; ‘Perrie x Jesy… Pesy… Jerrie… OMG WE’RE BACK.’

In the post, Jesy said it has taken welcoming her baby twins Ocean Jade and Story Monroe in May with fiancé Zion Foster for her to realise how incredible her body is.

Jesy admitted she has ‘put herself down’ wishing she had a ‘flatter belly and smaller waist’ for her entire life.

Alongside the body positive post, she shared three stunning black and white photos showing off her amazing figure in her underwear while holding her baby girls.

She wrote: ‘I never thought it would have taken having two beautiful baby girls, that I could have potentially lost, to make me realise how incredible my body actually is.

’33 years of extreme diets, 33 years of putting myself down wishing my belly was flatter, wanting my waist just a little smaller and almost going through with a boob job, to now standing here having this photo taken.’

She continued: ‘I can honestly say I’ve never felt prouder of my body and what it has been through! Yes my boobs hang lower and my belly is bigger and squishier – it doesn’t look how it used to, but my god it created the best gift that has ever happened to me.

‘I cannot wait to show my girls the first place they called home and the place where they defied all the odds. If there’s anything I’ve learned over the past 9 months of being pregnant, it’s that I never want my girls to feel the way I did about my body for so many years.’

Jesy concluded by telling other new mums, who are ‘feeling the pressure to snap back’, to be ‘kinder to yourself’.

Perrie recently admitted ‘it was like losing a limb’ as she alluded to her fall out with former bandmate Jesy Nelson in a new interview.

Speaking about a friendship that ‘broke down,’ the singer said it was hard adapting to ‘not have her in my life anymore.’

Perrie, who’s debut solo album is set to be released September 26, revealed one song Same Place, Different View was difficult to write as it referenced the fall out.

In an interview with Glamour UK, she explained: ‘It’s about a friendship that I once had, that I no longer have anymore. We talk about breakups and heartbreak, but we don’t normally talk about friendships that break down.

‘And it was like losing a limb. I was with her every day. We lived in each other’s pockets.’

Perrie added: ‘We were the best of friends, we were so close, and we did everything together. To then not have her in my life anymore was a big thing for me. I found it really hard to adapt.’

Speaking to Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place podcast, Perrie had previously admitted her shattered friendship with Jesy had inspired a new song.

She said: ‘I wrote a song about it – a friendship I had that I no longer have. We don’t know how to talk about friendship breakups.

‘It’s still as heartbreaking – when you go through all these things with someone all the highs and lows and then they’re just gone.

‘But these things happen. Do we try and rectify things? Or just stay away?’

Last year, Perrie said it was ‘heartbreaking’ that she hadn’t talked to her former Little Mix bandmate Jesy ‘for a long time’.

In a candid interview with Cosmopolitan UK, the singer spoke about how the friendship now lies in tatters.

She said: ‘We don’t talk and haven’t done for a long time… It’s really sad, it’s heartbreaking.’

Perrie added: ‘But sometimes these things happen and people decide they want to part ways, and that’s absolutely fine. I would rather it went differently but you can’t control how things go.’

Jesy has previously let people into her life after starring in her BBC documentary Odd One Out, which aired back in 2019, and followed her struggles with her mental health. Her former bandmates also appeared in the documentary.

‘The Little Mix singer opens up about the impact cyberbullies have had on her life and on her mental health and meets others who have been the victims of horrific online trolling,’ the synopsis read.

The programme was a huge hit and went on to win the Factual category at the National Television Awards in 2020.

During her time on The X Factor, Jesy was subject to vile trolling about her looks, which impacted her mental health.
