Perrie Edwards’ Fans Praise ‘Mindblowing’ Second Single Tears Featuring Son Axel

Perrie Edwards fans have praised her ‘mindblowing’ second single Tears, which dropped on Friday, as she revealed that her son Axel, two, features in her upcoming debut album.

The former Little Mix star, 30, showed off her vocals in Tears, the follow-up to April’s Don’t Forget About Us.

Her debut solo single was number one for two weeks on the Big Top 40 chart and peaked inside the top 10 of the Official Charts.

Perrie performed Don’t Forget About Us, Tears, and Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance With Somebody in a dazzling gold dress at the Capital Summertime Ball on Sunday.

On Heart FM on Friday, Perrie shared that fans will be able to hear Axel when the as yet unnamed album is released because he ‘loves’ to sing and she ‘can’t get rid of him’ when she’s in her home studio.

Perrie added: ‘But he’s only two… three in August. He’ll walk in and go. “I’m gonna sing a song”. And you’ll just stand and I’m like: ‘Oh, my goodness.”

‘All the producers and writers and everybody in the room have to just stand there and listen to ‘Let it go’ on repeat the same let few lyrics over… and it just keeps going … He thrives on people given him attention.’

Where Don’t Forget About Us was an Ed Sheeran pop ballad with country music influence, Tears is smooth soul with an ’80s vibe.

In the song, Perrie laments the tears she wasted on an ex and, while saying she knows she will never get them back, she vows he will never see her cry again.

Perrie delighted all the Mixers listening by sharing that Axel enjoys play dates with former bandmate Leigh-Anne’s twin daughters, two.

She said: ‘I love hanging out with her and the twins. It’s so cute. And they’re at that age now where they like, they communicate more.’

Over on Capital Breakfast, Perrie opened up about the difficulties of following up a strong debut.

She admitted: ‘There is a bit of pressure. I think there’s a bit of pressure because it’s so different. But I did warn everybody. I did bring a disclaimer to the table.

‘When I promoted Forget About Us. I was like, my second single and third single are so different from the first. So, I think now you know what I mean by that, because ‘Tears’ is like sonically completely different.’

While they shared clips from the latter songs on their social media immediately, Capital FM refrained from sharing Perrie’s performance of Tears till the song officially dropped on Friday.

Fans on X, formerly Twitter, couldn’t get enough of Tears, and wrote: ”STREAM TEARS BY PERRIE EDWARDS. THIS SHOULD BE HER FREAKING ESPRESSO!’;

‘”Tears” are an absolute masterpiece. can’t wait for the whole album to hear even more songs from Pez #perrie #tears #perrieedwards’;

‘This is insane in the best way she is mindblowing soooo beautiful, this is her musical aesthetic & sound’;

‘Perrie said one time that in the album there’s always a “sister” for some song, Tears and FAU are to me. They are both cohesive but showcase different emotions in the storyline.

‘The rawness of reminiscing past memories to the acceptance, healing and moving on in Tears. Loved it !’;

‘TEARS BY PERRIE IS JUST DKANDBJABDNAJS. THE QUEEN IS BACK. I’M SO OBSESSEDDDD’;

‘@mothergoose2020 [Perrie’s mother Deborah] I really love perrie tears song it is fantastic I’m so very proud of her’;

‘Tears’ is a Motown-influenced, smooth and sultry track written by multi-platinum winning producer Ido (Justin Bieber, Camilla Cabello, Shawn Mendes) and Feli Ferraro.

Perrie says: ‘This song is about coming out of a bad situation and letting go of what has happened in the past. It’s that point where you feel empowered, and you leave the tears behind because you’ve come out the other side. It’s a sultry and smooth track that I’m really excited for you all to hear.’

The album contains nods to her rock ‘n’ roll-influenced childhood, Motown, The ’80s, disco, country, and bright, bold pop.

Nearly all of the highly personal album was written and recorded at Perrie’s North London home.

Her fiancé Alex, 30, suggested they turn their unused dining room into a home studio, which he had built for her with everything she needed to lay down the tracks.

Perrie also explored working with producers and co-writers—the elite squad of which included artists Ed Sheeran and RAYE as well as Johnny McDaid, Feli Ferraro (BTS, Normani) and Jon Bellion (Maroon 5, Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber)

She reflected: ‘Going into sessions as a solo artist now and being able to say what I want and I feel is just the most amazing experience. I’ve never really done that before—that’s why I’ve wanted to just explore all my different emotions and different parts of my life.#

Tune in to Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden weekdays from 6:30am – 10:00am, also on Global Player.
