Paula Deen Comments on Anthony Bourdain Seven Years After His Death

Paula Deen just threw some serious shade at her biggest critic – rival chef Anthony Bourdain – seven years after he died, age 61, from suicide by hanging.

It all began in 2011 when Anthony called the 78-year-old chef ‘the worst, most dangerous person to America’ and ‘the most destructive person on the Food Network’ due to her sugary, butter-soaked recipes.

‘She revels in unholy connections with evil corporations and she’s proud of the fact that her food is f***ing bad for you,’ Bourdain told TV Guide.

‘If I were on at seven at night and loved by millions of people at every age, I would think twice before telling an already obese nation that it is okay to eat food that is killing us. Plus, her food sucks.’

The next year, Paula signed on as brand ambassador for drug company Novo Nordisk after publicly disclosing her Type 2 diabetes (she was actually diagnosed in 2009).

‘Thinking of getting into the leg-breaking business, so I can profitably sell crutches later,’ the native New Yorker sarcastically tweeted.

Anthony went on to tell Eater that it was ‘in bad taste’ for Deen (born Hiers) to ‘cheerfully sell’ her signature dish of ‘hamburger in between a doughnut’ knowing ‘all along that you’ve got Type 2 diabetes.’

The Georgia native clapped back at Bourdain in director Billy Corben’s documentary Canceled: The Paula Deen Story, which premiered last Saturday at the Toronto International Film Festival but has yet to secure distribution.

‘I don’t know what he was off in these foreign countries eating. Bat brains or something like that. I think I’ll just stick with my fried chicken,’ Paula stated – according to EW.

‘God rest his soul. I felt like he didn’t like anybody. Not even himself, maybe.’

Deen added: ‘He started something with me, and I’d never even met him.’

The Daytime Emmy winner – who now hosts Love & Best Dishes on her Facebook page – confronted her 2013 N-word scandal in the new doc while insisting she is not racist.

‘When they lay me down, I do not want my tombstone to say, “Here lies the body of a racist,”‘ Paula lamented.

‘I want my soul back. To lose your reputation is like losing your soul.’

In a racial discrimination lawsuit deposition, Deen admitted ‘of course’ she used racial slurs in the eighties when a black man allegedly ‘put a gun to my head’ during a bank robbery but as for more recently: ‘I’m sure I have, but it’s been a very long time.’Ā

However, a federal judge dismissed the Positively Paula host’s employee lawsuit because the white plaintiff Lisa Jackson did not have standing to sue for her alleged poor treatment of black employees.

Within ’24 hours’ the Food Network axed Paula’s show and she lost endorsement deals with Novo Nordisk, Walmart, Target, and more.

On August 1, Deen announced the closures of her restaurants The Lady & Sons after 36 years and The Chicken Box after two years of operating in Savannah, GA.

But the DWTS #21 alum still maintains four Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen locations across the country — in Pigeon Forge, Myrtle Beach, Nashville, and Branson.
