While Paul has been linked to a few stars since his split from singer Phoebe Bridgers in late 2022, Emma’s romantic history remains relatively unknown.

The actress was recently seen alongside Austin Butler in Masters of the Air and is set to feature in the upcoming series The New Look, which explores Christian Dior’s rise in the fashion world, starring Ben Mendelsohn.

The sighting comes after Paul was said to have attracted the attention of Florence Pugh after the BAFTA Film Awards at the Royal Festival Hall in London on Sunday.

Florence was seen rubbing shoulders with Paul and other stars including Rosamund Pike, Lily James and Sacha Baron Cohen at the Netflix party.

A source told The Sun: ‘Florence and Paul move in the same circles and have been mates for some time.

‘If their friendship moved into something more romantic no one would be surprised.’

MailOnline has contacted representatives for both Florence and Paul for comment.

Florence split from her photographer boyfriend Charlie Gooch in October last year.

It was reported at the time that Paul had signed up to a dating app following his breakup with Phoebe.

A self-proclaimed fan of Bridgers before their initial encounter, Mescal initiated a romance with the musician in 2020, shortly following his breakthrough with the acclaimed Normal People, which catapulted him to fame.

Meanwhile, Paul recently joked he would be ‘depressed’ if Gladiator 2 propelled him to ‘super stardom’.

The Irish actor is set to play the main character in the upcoming sequel, originally starring Russell Crowe.

Mescal will portray Lucius, the nephew of Emperor Commodus (portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix) and the secret son of Russell’s character Maximus.

Speaking to The Sunday Times about what he things life will be like after the sequel comes out, he said: ‘I don’t know what the difference will be. Maybe that’s naïve? Is it just that more people will stop you in the street?’

He then confessed: ‘I’d get profoundly depressed if that’s so and hope it isn’t true. I’ll have an answer next year, but if [the film] impacts my life in that way, I’ll be in a bad spot.’

Paul quipped that if he were to experience a meteoric rise, he’d follow the film with something that wouldn’t appeal to the audience, saying: ‘I’d have to move on and do an obtuse play nobody wants to see.’

Russell will not be featured in the sequel after his character’s death at the end of the first movie.

The film also stars Denzel Washington, whose character has yet to be revealed, but is thought to be a slave-turned arms and commodity dealer who harbours a grudge against the emperor.

Connie Neilsen will reprise her role as Lucilla, Lucius’ mother, while Derek Jacobi will also return as a Roman Senator Gracchus.

Gladiator 2 is scheduled to be released on November 22, 2024.

Paul Mescal opens up about feeling ‘blind panic’ and self-doubt as an actor, stating that acting can be incredibly embarrassing

Paul Mescal has spoken of his insecurities as an actor while filming intimate scenes, saying he sometimes feels as if he’s in a ‘blind panic’ on set.

The actor, 28, has most recently played the part of Harry in All of Us Strangers alongside Andrew Scott’s lonely screenwriter Adam who encounters the spirits of his dead parents in director Andrew Haigh’s latest film, an adaptation of Japanese author Taichi Yamada’s 1987 novel, Strangers.

While Paul has a wealth of experience as an actor and while All of Us Strangers was nominated for an impressive six awards at the BAFTAs last Sunday, he admits he can still feel very vulnerable while performing.

Irish star Paul is seen playing out some very intimate moments as Harry with Andrew’s Adam in the film.

Paul told All of Us Strangers writer and director Andrew Haigh during an interview for AnOther Magazine: ‘I feel like sometimes, though, it’s blind panic. Because I think acting has the capacity to be the most embarrassing thing that any of us ever do.

‘And it can be in an instant. I’ve seen actors that I really admire do bad, embarrassing things.

‘When you’re in a scene where that’s heightened – say, if your body is on show or there’s an emotional weight to a scene – weirdly, if you’re working with good actors, you can just throw a bubble around yourselves and white-knuckle it.

‘Andrew Scott is just outrageously good.’

Paul went on to praise his co-star Andrew, saying their closeness in real-life allowed for an intimacy and trust on screen that he’s only had a couple of times with other people, being Normal People’s Daisy Edgar-Jones and Saoirse Ronan in Foe.

The screen star said their acting abilities go beyond talent, adding that they have a ‘well of emotionality where all you have to do when you’re in scenes with them is sit there and listen’.

Paul posed for an arty photoshoot for the magazine, posing in sporting attire for a variety of photographs.

It comes after Andrew admitted he barely rehearsed his raunchy sex scenes with Paul while working with an intimacy coordinator ahead of his latest role in All Of Us Strangers.

While an explicit sexual encounter with Harry, played by Irish heartthrob Paul has dominated the commentary surrounding its release, Scott insists they both adopted an organic approach towards its development.

Speaking to Attitude, Andrew, 47, also credited the film’s intimacy coordinator for mediating any concerns regarding the graphic nature of their sex scene.

‘Sex is just communication, isn’t it?’ he said. ‘It’s just physical communication rather than verbal communication… We didn’t over rehearse it. We knew that those scenes, particularly the early ones, had to have a sort of frisson.

And we had an intimacy coordinator, which can be very helpful for the simple reason that if you’re able to talk to somebody about your fears or what you want to show, what you don’t want to show, or what you think it should be and what the narrative of the storyline is, you have that base of safety.

‘But chemistry is a really interesting thing. You’re basically just listening to see what the other person is doing physically in the same way you would in a dialogue scene.

‘And you can talk about that as much as you like, but until you’re actually there, it’s not alive in that way, so it’s just about listening, but just listening with your body, basically.’

The actor, best known for playing James Moriarty in BBC drama Sherlock and the unnamed ‘Hot Priest’ in Phoebe Waller-Bridge comedy Fleabag, publicly acknowledged his own sexuality for the first time in 2013.

And Scott admits being an openly gay man in the modern age is a ‘wonderful gift’ that has helped him establish firm friendships within the queer community.

He said: ‘I think it’s such a wonderful thing to me. It’s an extraordinary gift to my life and just to be able to see the real beauty in being gay is completely wonderful.

‘The older I get, just the more I feel so lucky to have been born gay and that pervades my life in the sense of all my friendships. I have so many amazing queer friends in my life now that I just adore.’

He added: ‘I feel such a huge sense of camaraderie with other queer people now, and without sounding too hippy about it, I feel like I just want to spread that love and positivity in our community because we’ve come such a long way and it’s important that we are kind and look out for each other, and celebrate how uniquely different and how f**king wonderful that can be.

‘It feels like such an extraordinary privilege to be able to play a character like this. And I wanted to give as much of myself because it was cathartic for me,’ he said.

‘I never thought that I would be able to watch a film like this, let alone be at the centre of it, so I wanted to be able to take that opportunity to express myself in some way.

‘Why pick an imaginary backstory from somewhere else? I wanted to bring as much of myself as I could, because I feel like that’s what the audience is going to relate to the most.’

Leo Woodall, One Day star, describes filming a ‘terrifying’ scene, shares opinion on Dexter, and rejects comparison to Normal People

One Day star Leo Woodall has become an overnight hit following his portrayal of Dexter Mayhew opposite Ambika Mod’s Emma Morley in the Netflix series.

The actor, 27, who first rose to prominence following his appearance in White Lotus season two as Jack, opened up about his experience in this month’s GQ Hype.

Leo’s character Dexter spends the night with Emma on their final night of university and the series follows their relationship on the same date for the next 20 years.

The two drop in and out of each other’s lives, mainly due to the difficulty that Emma has with Dexter’s changed personality after achieving a low level of fame.

At the time, Dexter is struggling with his mother’s terminal illness and one scene shows him arriving late to his family home after a cocaine-fuelled night out.

Dexter’s mother Alison [Essie Davis] gives him some home truths about the person he has become after getting boozed up and falling asleep in his childhood bedroom.

After his visit, his father Stephen [Tim McInnerny] drops him at the station and gives him both barrels about his recent behaviour.

Discussing the scene, Leo told the publication: ‘That was f***ing terrifying to film. You don’t even see the worst of it. There were takes where, from ‘Action!’ he just obliterated me. It was like there was a tiger in the car.’

Leo admitted that after filming the show he agrees his character Dexter can be a ‘t**t’, due to the way he treats the people that love him.

He said: ‘I know they say don’t judge a character, but in retrospect I can say he’s a t***. He’s getting a bit more fame, he’s enjoying it, but there’s a little part of him that’s convincing himself that he’s enjoying it.’

Since the show launched on Netflix last Thursday it has remained at the No.1 spot on the streaming platform in 33 countries.

It’s early success is being compared to Sally Rooney adaptation Normal People, which follows Marianne Sheridan [Daisy Edgar-Jones] and Connell Waldron [Paul Mescal] as they weave in and out of each other’s lives in a similar way.

However, Leo has insisted he doesn’t want the two come of age dramas to be compared.

The actor, 27, who first rose to prominence following his appearance in White Lotus season two as Jack, opened up about his experience in this month’s GQ Hype

He said: ‘Normal People was a masterpiece, but I don’t think it’s that comparable. It’s its own unique thing, it was shot so beautifully. I don’t want to be compared to that.

‘One Day has a comedy aspect, but then it goes dark, it swings. We’ll see if it has the effect of erasing my anonymity like it did with Paul Mescal . I hope it doesn’t, but I really want the show to do well.’

It come soon after Ambika detailed her first meeting with Leo before being cast as the beloved Dex and Em.

The actress, 29, spoke about the ‘close bond’ she made with Leo while filming the David Nicholls novel adaptation.

Speaking on the Reign with Josh Smith podcast, Ambika revealed there was an immediate connection between the two actors, as she described their ‘playful’ read through, which she said are ‘really rare’.

For this reason, there had to be a believable connection which translated on screen between the two stars playing the characters.

Detailing their first meeting, Ambika said: ‘I met Leo at the chemistry reads and he was the second Dexter I read with. He is so cheeky and charming. He was so open and warm just immediately and it felt really easy, the scenes felt really playful and I think that’s really rare.

‘That was really half the battle because I think if that had been cast wrong, it would have been so much harder. You just can’t fake that stuff and I’m really grateful to have had an actor like Leo.’

Ambika went onto explain how it was important to her it was that her and Leo were going through the same life-changing type of role for the first time together.

She had previously starred as junior doctor Shruti in This Might Hurt, while Leo had played cockney Jack in the second series of HBO hit White Lotus.

Neither of them had taken on major leading roles yet and it marked a first for both actors to take on such a huge undertaking.

She said: ‘We were both going through a very, very similar thing. This was so much bigger than anything either of us had ever done before and I think we both felt really similarly about the undertaking.

‘I just remember, especially at the beginning of the shoot, it was quite overwhelming and it was a massive responsibility, not only like the size of the roles and the size of the project, but also because the book and the characters are so beloved and we definitely felt that.’

Explaining how they would support each other, she said: ‘We were both really open when we were struggling, when we didn’t feel like things were right.

‘I remember just like, maybe I was more vocal about it than him, but I would come out of every scene just being like, ‘oh, I’m a f**king sh*t actor, I should f**king quit right now, I hate myself.’

‘And he was always very supportive to me in that, and I hope vice versa. It was good to have someone like that because as an actor you might not always have that.’

He admitted that people who act ‘chill’ when turning off the lights to go to bed and run ‘up the stairs because they’re scared’ is his biggest ick.

Paul said he likes to ‘try to impress’ someone by ‘smoothly’ heading back up stairs and acting cool rather than panicking.

The Aftersun star went on to reveal that people who ‘slide down [the stairs] on their bum’ give him even more of an ick.

He added: ‘That gives me more of the ick, cause it’s not as funny. That would give me the ick. It’s just a bit weird.

It comes after Paul and Andrew admitted they weren’t too keen on their family members watching their new film All Of Us Strangers.

The movie stars Andrew, 47, as a screenwriter drawn back to his childhood home who enters into a relationship with a mysterious neighbour, played by Paul.

The film features several intimate scenes between the actors which the pair discussed during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show earlier this month.

Asked if their families had seen the flick yet, Paul said: ‘With the Irish premiere, trying to allocate tickets to all the aunties and uncles is a tricky business. They have seen my bum before but there is a little more going on in this movie I would say!’

Andrew added: ‘I don’t want to be there when my parents watch it!’

All Of Us Strangers dominated the competition at the British Independent Film Awards, earning a staggering seven gongs in total.

Among the awards was the top prize for Best Film, beating Femme, How To Have Sex, Rye Lane and Scrapper.
