Great British Sewing Bee judge Patrick Grant reveals today his struggles with the ‘unnecessary’ death of his father from Covid in the early days of the pandemic.
The 51-year-old holds back tears as he tells Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs that his dad James – a pop music manager who died at 79 – caught the virus after going into hospital for a routine operation.
Blaming the tragedy on a lack of PPE, the Scottish-born designer says: ‘It was totally unnecessary that he died but there was no PPE.
‘The Government was running this catastrophically shambolic programme.
It was heart-breaking to see how badly they all performed.’
