Past Lives was named Best Feature at the Gotham Awards Monday in New York City at Cipriani Wall Street, while Lily Gladstone and Charles Melton walked away with the biggest acting honors on the night.
‘It’s such an honor,’ Past Lives writer-director Celine Song said in her acceptance speech, according to Variety. ‘Thank you, Gotham, for this award. It really means the world to receive it with my debut set in New York City, a city I live in and love deeply.’
Song – who was accompanied onstage by the film’s Greta Lee and John Magaro – thanked her collaborators at A24, as well as the cast and crew of the motion picture.
Gladstone won the honors for Outstanding Lead Performance for The Unknown Country, while Melton won Outstanding Supporting Performance for May December.
A Thousand and One director A.V. Rockwell won the Breakthrough Director Award.

Anatomy of a Fall claimed the honors for Best International Feature and Best Screenplay, while Four Daughters won the honors for Best Documentary.
The Netflix series Beef won two awards for Breakthrough Series – Under 40 minutes; and Outstanding Performance in a New Series for Ali Wong.
A Small Light won the honors for Breakthrough Series – Over 40 minutes.
All of Us Strangers, directed by Andrew Haigh, garnered the most nominations with four, but did not win any awards; Past Lives and A Thousand and One each had three.
A number of other films were honored with standalone awards Monday evening in New York City, including Barbie which was awarded with with the Global Icon & Creator Tribute; Ferrari, which took home the Icon & Creator Tribute for Innovation; and Air, which got the Visionary Icon & Creator Tribute.
Air writer Alex Convery said, according to The Hollywood Reporter, ‘The movie really is about knowing your worth and fighting for it, and this is something as artists we experienced firsthand as we walked the picket lines for over 200 days this summer.
‘It was long and grueling, but we made it through and we showed the world that we know what we’re worth.’
Other honorees included Maestro, which was named with the Cultural Icon & Creator Tribute; Rustin, which got the Cultural Icon & Creator Tribute for Social Justice; and Killers of the Flower Moon, which was awarded with the Gotham Historical Icon & Creator Tribute.

In a speech that made headlines after De Niro claimed organizers tried to ‘edit’ it, the veteran actor ripped into former President Donald Trump.
‘Truth isn’t truth, and facts are being replaced by conspiracy theories,’ De Niro said. ‘Lying has become a tool in the charlatan’s arsenal. The former president lied to us more than 30,000 times over his four years, and he’s keeping it up in his campaign of retribution. With all of his lies, he can’t hide his soul.’
‘He attacks the weak, destroys the gifts of nature and shows disrespect by, for example, using Pocahontas as a slur.’
According to Variety, organizers with the Gotham Film and Media Institute changed the criteria of entry for the annual award show, which is typically geared toward honoring independent movies.
A budget cap of $35 million was lifted for potential entrants. Two years ago, the Big Apple-based award show removed categories classified by gender.
