Paralympic Champion Dylan Alcott Surprises Fans with Career Change Decision

Three-time Paralympic gold medalist Dylan Alcott is set to expand his career by starring in the upcoming Sydney production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

The former wheelchair tennis star, 33, will be appearing as the narrator in the lavish stage production at Theatre Royal Sydney next year, from March 31 – April 17.

Alcott said he was incredibly excited about moving his career into acting and admitted he couldn’t think of a better platform to do it.

‘Super pumped to join this incredible production of the iconic show,’ he said in a statement. 

‘Couldn’t think of a better opportunity for my first theatre production, feeling very grateful. Can’t wait to get to work and rock it out on stage in Sydney!’

The former Australian of the Year will be joined by a host of veteran performers, including Jason Donovan, in the role of Frank N. Furter, in the critically acclaimed stage show that has toured the world.

Other famous Australians will take on the narrator role when the show performs in different cities, with Myf Warhurst performing the role in Newcastle and Joel Creasey in Melbourne.

Alcott has previously expressed interest into branching out in acting and in July it was announced he will have a cameo in the upcoming season four of the Stan series Bump.

In August last year, Dylan told Body+Soul Magazine that he has some roles lined up and is eyeing an Oscar win.    

‘I want to try a bit of acting, which I’m excited about. I think it will be fun and I think I can be good at it. We have a few little leads already,’ he told the publication. 

Dylan won a Logie in 2019 – the Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent – for his work co-hosting the ABC music show The Set – and wants to add more statuettes to his mantel.

‘Growing up, I never saw anyone like me on TV, so I was honoured to win a Logie, but it’s definitely not as cool as an Oscar,’ he added.
