The winner of BBC Radio 1’s Sound of 2024 has been announced.
London-based indie-rock/pop band The Last Dinner Party – consisting of Abigail Morris, Lizzie Mayland, Emily Roberts, Georgia Davies, and Aurora Nishevci – nabbed the honour, that’s been awarded to a long list of successful musicians in the past.
The group – who made their Glastonbury debut in 2023 – were chosen by a panel of over 140 industry experts and artists, including Olivia Rodrigo, Declan McKenna, Chase & Status, Mahalia and more.
As well as taking to the Glastonbury stage last year, The Last Dinner Party – who were formed in 2021 – also embarked on their first North American tour, released their debut track Nothing Matters, and announced a headline gig at London’s Roundhouse.
2024 is set to be another big year for the band, with their highly anticipated debut album Prelude to Ecstasy being released in February.

The Last Dinner Party said of topping the list: ‘We are overjoyed to have won BBC Radio 1’s Sound Of Award for 2024!’
The band continued: ‘We predict amazing things happening in music this year and it is truly an honour to even be a part of it.
‘BBC Radio has championed us and so many other young artists from the start of their careers, we still can’t believe it every time we hear one of our songs being played.
‘Every artist who has been nominated or won over the years is such a powerhouse, it humbles us to join their ranks! Thank you to guitar music for never dying. Bands are back, baby.’
BBC Radio 1 DJ Jack Saunders added: ‘It is a really strong year for the Sound Of list, which should make this win for The Last Dinner Party even sweeter.
‘There isn’t a band connecting with their audience like this band right now: great songs, image and drive. They have the perfect concoction for success.’
Olivia Dean came in second place on the Sound of 2024 list, followed by Peggy Gou, Tyla and Elmiene.
Also on the longlist for Sound of 2024 were: Ayra Starr, Caity Baser, CMAT, Kenya Grace and Sekou.
Artists from the longlist are set to perform at a special Radio 1 event – BBC Radio 1 Sound of 2024 Live – which will be held at Maida Vale on Monday, January 8.
Sound of… started back in 2003 and has seen the likes of 50 Cent, Adele and HAIM be crowned the winner. Other artists to have won include Stormzy, Lady Gaga, Dizzee Rascal, The Weeknd, Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish and Lewis Capaldi.
FLO nabbed the top spot in 2023.
