The movie was initially announced in May, without anyone cast in the role of Elliot.
Cooper made his acting debut in 2021’s coming-of-age film Licorice Pizza alongside Alana Haim, 32.
It was directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, who worked with his father on several films throughout his illustrious career.
Anderson and Hoffman made five movies together: Hard Eight, Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Punch-Drunk Love and The Master.
The actor also starred in Almost Famous and The Talented Mr. Ripley.
He died on February 2, 2014 in New York City of acute mixed drug intoxication.

Cooper reflected on his foray into the world of acting in a 2022 interview with the Associated Press.
‘I don’t think I ever really considered it a possibility,’ he said, adding ‘I was always kind of scared to enter that arena because my dad did it so well.’
The budding star opened up about being on set of Licorice Pizza, explaining, ‘In a weird way, it felt almost like I was stepping into my dad’s shoes.
‘It really was this feeling of: Maybe this is what he felt like. It was this weird out-of-body experience. I felt incredibly close to my dad through the whole shooting process.’
As for Wilde, she most recently directed 2022’s Don’t Worry Darling, which is where she first met One Direction singer Harry Styles, who was then just 26.
The pair struck up a surprise romance and dated for two years.
Wilde has two children Otis, 10, and Daisy, 7, with her former fiancé of seven years, Jason Sudeikis.
Wilde always claimed she and Sudeikis split up at the start of 2020, but they actually split 10 months later – weeks after she began filming with Styles.
Their devoted nanny of three years who was caught in the middle of the warring pair, spoke about the saga out in a blockbuster interview with DailyMail.com in 2022.
The nanny said Sudeikis uncovered the full details of Wilde’s relationship with Styles by reading messages on an Apple watch Wilde had left behind.
During one blowup on November 15, the Ted Lasso star allegedly lashed out and chased after Olivia after she had prepared a salad for Styles in their kitchen.
Jason went outside and lay under her car so she wouldn’t leave, the nanny said.
A series of devastating texts from Wilde and Sudeikis to their nanny reveals how the actor was ‘crying, crying’ to her about Olivia ‘leaving’.
In a joint statement to DailyMail.com, Wilde and Sudeikis said at the time: ‘As parents, it is incredibly upsetting to learn that a former nanny of our two young children would choose to make such false and scurrilous accusations about us publicly.’
