Olivia Bowen shared an emotional health update on Thursday after she ‘almost died’ while giving birth to her newborn Siena.

The Love Island star, 31, took to Instagram on Monday to reveal she had welcomed her daughter into the world with husband Alex, 34.

However, amid the joyous news, Olivia revealed she was close to death after losing litres of blood during the traumatic birth.

Now, in a health update to fans, she penned: ‘Hi all you gorgeous lot.

‘I wanted to pop on here and say a ginormous thank you for all your messages and love and wishes, it’s truly been overwhelming I can’t tell you how beautiful it is to receive such kind messages about our little family.

‘Secondly, I wanted to reassure you that I am doing OK and baby girl is OK, I know there have been some stories in the press online about my birth.

‘The main thing is Siena and I are both recovering and are safe, it has been a bit of a traumatic time that I guess we are both just trying get through whilst in our little bubble.’

Olivia added that she would speak more in depth about her ordeal when she feels ready to, but said it’s ‘just a little raw at the moment’ and she has ‘struggled to put it into words’.

She concluded: ‘I love you all so much and will be back to myself soon.’

A source close to Olivia previously revealed how she had a very close call during the birth, necessitating an emergency C-section and a blood transfusion.

They told Daily Mail: ‘Olivia could have died during birth if it wasn’t for the incredible team at her local hospital.

‘She lost nearly three litres of blood needing an urgent blood transfusion and emergency c-section.’ 

Announcing Siena’s birth to the world earlier this week, Olivia cradled her daughter in her arms for heartwarming family photos.

The snaps saw her beaming with joy at Alex, while son Abel sweetly hugged his new sister as the foursome cuddled up in bed together.

While another shot showed a personalised knitted cardigan, which had Siena Grace’s name embroidered onto it along with a selection of flowers.

Sharing their joyous news with fans, Olivia wrote: ‘I can’t even find the words other than to say our beautiful girl Siena Grace is here, and we are all bursting with love.

‘It wasn’t an easy ride but every second worth it a thousand times over. I love my babies.’

The couple revealed in March that they had been expecting twins, but sadly lost one of their babies eight weeks into the pregnancy.

Olivia broke down in tears on Loose Women as she recalled her excitement at finding out they were having twins just before Christmas, when they attended an early six week scan.

She said: ‘We had that two week period we were looking at cars, looking at car seats, planning bedrooms… and something happened called vanishing twin syndrome.’

She explained: ‘One of the babies just basically didn’t have a heartbeat but I’d had no symptoms, no pain, no bleeding to tell me that was what we were walking into. We were floored, we were expecting to have these two little babies.’
