Tim Blackwell has finally addressed his marriage breakdown almost one year after his split from wife Monique after 14 years of marriage.

The Nova radio host’s estranged wife announced in an Instagram post in December that their marriage has come to an end.

Speaking with Missy Higgins on the latest episode of his podcast, Introducing With Tim Blackwell, the Ricki-Lee, Tim & Joel drive show co-host opened up about co-parenting his three children he shares with Monique.

The 43-year-old made the heartbreaking admission that he felt like a failure not just with his wife, but also for his kids when his marriage was over.

‘You think you failed … I clearly failed at the marriage, tick, but then you think you failed as a parent,’ he told Missy.

Tim added that some of the singer-songwriter’s lyrics in her track A Complicated Truth resonated with him.

‘You realise I’m still in it, like you are,’ he continued.

‘And especially as co-parents, we’re still in the relationship. It just looks different. I think we’re working harder on the relationship we don’t have anymore.’

Tim had remained silent on his split with Monique ever since she made the announcement on Instagram.

On December 10, Monique broke the sad news to friends and fans of the couple.

‘Not all good things end, but this has,’ began her caption of a couple of photos of herself and Tim in happier times.

‘Thank you in advance for your messages of love, support and sadness at the news that Tim & I are no longer together,’ she added.

‘Our babes are forever supported by Tim’s and my love for them.’

The entrepreneur and yoga instructor concluded, ‘And our friendship together is a source of strength for our family always, as we raise our children as best friends.’

They met during the biggest day in Tim’s career.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph’s Stellar magazine in 2018, the radio personality revealed that the pair met in 2002 after he moved to the city to launch Nova 93.7’s local drive show.

‘It’s the cheesiest radio-nerd story ever — one of the biggest days for my career and certainly the biggest day of my love life,’ he said.

‘I had all the big bosses in town, all the news media there. I was shaking and absolutely sh***ing myself but also exhilarated at the same time.

‘Once all that was over, we went downstairs and had this huge launch party and Monique was a part of the promotions team at the time there. She came over and I got the courage to say, “I’m new to Perth and I’d love to take you out to coffee or something”.’

The news comes after Blackwell appeared to have confirmed rumours of a feud between him and Kate Ritchie.

The radio presenter seemed to hint at a clash with his former Nova FM co-host by making a snarky comment when asked about her departure from the drive-time show on the Shock Jocks podcast.

When asked what prompted Kate’s exit, Tim responded: ‘That’s a question for her, I know nothing.’

He then added: ‘I think it ran its course and I think she wanted a new opportunity… and [new host] Ricki-Lee Coulter was around as well.’

Tim spoke fondly of his new co-host, saying ‘she’s powerful, vocal and the female version of him’.

He continued: ‘She’s a bit of a control freak, she knows what she wants, she’s very vocal, very powerful, she’s got her own ideas, that’s why we love her so much.’

Ricki-Lee replaced Kate on the show in 2023, with the program re-branded as the Ricki-Lee, Tim & Joel Show.

Ricki-Lee said she was ‘so happy’ to be taking over the segment alongside co-hosts Tim and Joel Creasey.

‘I love Tim and Joel like the brothers I never had but always wanted, and I have been having so much fun in the studio with them – they are the best in the business!’ she said in a statement to Daily Mail Australia.

‘I have so much love for Kate and I’m so happy I’ve been able to help out on the Drive show over the last year. I am pumped to be officially joining the Nova family!’

Kate is now starring on Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie, also on Nova.

Meanwhile, Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald and Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli’s co-host Sarah McGilvray faced a ‘brutal’ exit from the show, making way for Kate’s big debut.

Nova FM staff spoke of their ‘shock’ and ‘confusion’ over the sudden exit of Fitzy and Wippa’s long-serving co-anchor.

Sarah worked on Fitzy and Wippa for 12 years, spending eight of those as a co-host alongside Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald and Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli. Before that, she was a senior producer for the Sydney breakfast program.
