The Golden Bachelor’s inaugural season has come to a close and Channel 9 certainly splashed out on the show’s grand final.
Flying Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden and his two final ladies Janette and Sunny – as well as host Samantha Armytage – to South Africa’s windy city Cape Town, Nine pulled out all the stops for the final rose in Sunday night’s episode.
In the end, the 61-year-old engineer gave his heart to 58-year-old CEO Sunny in front of a breathtaking backdrop of the Twelve Apostles mountain range.
But before he made his final decision, The Golden Bachelor wasn’t afraid of dropping some cash on the ladies vying for Bear’s heart.
First off, economy flights from Sydney to Cape Town would’ve cost production between AU$1,700 and AU$2,200 per person, which would certainly rack up the air miles between the cast and crew.
Once in the Mother City, Janette and Sunny were treated to a variety of luxe experiences by the Bachelor.

For Bear and Janette’s final date, the leading man took the Pilates studio owner, 61, on a safari around Aquila Private Game Reserve.
The day trip, which included a game drive and lunch by the fire, came in at R5,790 (AU$520) for the couple.
As for Sunny’s date, Bear took her for a drive in a vintage AC Cobra along Chapman’s Peak, an experience that cost nearly R3,000 (AU$270) for the day.
What’s more, a five-star hotel made many appearances throughout the episode.
Perched in the penthouse of The Silo Hotel, the women discussed what was in their hearts while looking out across the Atlantic Ocean alongside host Samantha.
They were also spotted getting ready in front of the iconic silo-inspired windows before the moment Bear picked his girl.
The hotel’s penthouse B&B comes in at a whopping R170,500 (AU$15,350) daily rate.

Bear made his ultimate choice during the romantic South Africa trip – and it was Sunny who walked away victorious.
However, rejected contestant Janette was not humble in defeat, storming off while Bear tried to comfort her.
In heartbreaking scenes, Bear let down Janette, telling her that while he had strong feelings for her, he had not fallen in love.
‘I was so nervous about doing this, because you made me feel like I haven’t felt in a long time,’ Bear admitted.
‘I feel like I could tell you anything, Janette. You deserve a love worth fighting for. And I’m so sorry… It’s not with me.’
A stoic Janette replied curtly, ‘I’m fine. I read your eyes the minute I walked up here.’
‘I do really care for you,’ Bear insisted.
‘Don’t disrespect Sunny by saying anything like that,’ Janette snapped.

‘I hope you’re very happy, both of you,’ she added bitterly.
Clearly enraged, Janette cut the discussion short, storming off and leaving Bear standing there, speechless.
When she was back in the car, Janette broke down in tears.
‘I thought he was going to choose me. I truly meant I was falling for him. I feel like a fool,’ she said.
Janette said her instinct was to ‘shut down again’ – but she hoped that she would one day find love.
‘My turn will come. There’s still someone out there for me,’ she said.
