Nicole Richie revealed she has always been ‘open’ about her wild child past with her daughter Harlow, 16, and son Sparrow, 14.
While appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show, the adopted daughter of legendary singer Lionel Richie admitted that she has been preparing for her children to google her since they were born.
When asked by Barrymore if her kids ever call her out about her past antics in the mid-2000s, the 42-year-old reality star explained she’s always been ‘very open with’ her kids.
‘I knew that, you know, that they would be on the internet one day,’ she mused. ‘And so, they’re gonna find out, they do have fingers and so, you know, I’m going to be, I was, I’ve been very transparent with them.’

Similarly, Barrymore said that she’s also had to tell her children about her own demons from her past to prevent them from learning about it online.
‘I have too because I didn’t wanna, like, pretend and then have them find out,’ the talk show host told Richie.
Richie agreed, explaining that she wouldn’t want her children ‘to be shocked’ and ‘not know’ each chapter of her life that makes ‘us who we are.’
‘I want my kids to know the full me,’ she emphasized.
The mother-of-two, who has been married to married to Joel Madden for 14 years, has undeniably a very different person since her teens and twenties.
As for what she’s learned from her teenagers, Richie said she feels ‘it’s really important’ to show her kids that their parents are ‘humans’ too.
‘We’re not perfect and we are humans and I love who my kids are,’ she said. ‘So I just enjoy who they are. I learn so much from them. I love slash am terrified sometimes of seeing myself through their lens.’
The Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead actress also stated that it surprises her how good her kids are at knowing she she’s ‘not okay’ even if she thinks she’s ‘hiding it’ really well.

‘It turns out they’re really insightful,’ Barrymore said, to which Richie added: ‘Yes. They are. Yes, because they watch you all day long.’
In 2016, Richie reflected on her ‘beastly’ days, alluding to her past run-ins with the law, substance abuse issues and getting arrested for heroin possession.

‘I’m going is to meet none other than the one and only new sprout to the universe is Cardinal Diaz Madden,’ Barrymore raved.
The E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial star described Diaz, 51, ‘sister from another mother’ and said she was ‘so excited to get out there and meet the new baby.’
‘He’s the cutest,’ Richie told her.
Last month, Diaz and her husband Benji revealed they quietly welcomed their second child on Instagram.
