Nicole Richie opened up about parenthood to her two teenage children in a candid interview on The Today Show on Monday.
The former reality show star, 42, shares daughter Harlow, 16, and son Sparrow, 14, with husband Joel Madden, 45, and said navigating her kids as teenagers was her ‘favorite stage’ of parenting so far.
She said: ‘I just so clearly remember being 16 that it’s actually surprising how quickly I can go back there
‘When my daughter’s telling me drama with her friends, I go, ‘I remember. Laila Heckmath did that to me.
‘I remember first and last names, so it’s fun. It’s wild. And just the best.’

Discussing her teens’ appearance at the premiere of her film, Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead, she said: ‘Everyone came, the whole fam came. It was very sweet,
‘They are teens, so they’re pretty chill about it, but they were happy to be there, and they did tell me I did a good job [in the movie]. So I was like, ‘I will take that. Thank you very much.”
The family reunion also brought together Lionel’s girlfriend Lisa Parigi and ex-wife Brenda Harvey-Richie. Lionel and Brenda — whom he was married to from 1975 to 1993 — adopted Nicole when she was just nine years old in 1990.
Nicole and Joel tied the knot on December 11, 2010. They welcomed Harlow two years prior, on January 11, 2008. Meanwhile Sparrow was born on September 9, 2009.
Richie recently described her return to the big screen for the the first time in nearly two decades as a ‘dream come true’ after landing a role in a remake of Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead.
‘I’ve been a Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead fan since day one; having the opportunity to play Rose is a dream come true,’ she told Entertainment Weekly.
Richie ended up taking the part from Tyra Banks ‘due to a change in the production schedule’ that no longer aligned with ‘Tyra’s schedule,’ a source told ET.
She was prominently featured in the movie’s latest trailer, released on Tuesday, while June Squibb, 94, provided comedic relief as the eponymous babysitter.

Like the original — which starred a young Christina Applegate — the new version of Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead follows the antics of a 17-year-old who’s forced to become the primary caregiver for her younger siblings after the elderly babysitter their mother hired kicks the bucket unexpectedly while she’s away on a wellness retreat in Thailand.
The original film earned $25 million against a $10 million budget, but was greeted to mostly negative reviews.
However, it became a cult film and continued to be a popular film on home video and in video rental shops.
Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter Is Dead debuts exclusively in cinemas on April 12.
