Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron dished on the original, graphic title of their latest Netflix romantic comedy, A Family Affair – which dropped on the streaming site on June 28.
The Moulin Rouge actress, 57, took on the role of Brooke in the movie while Efron, 36 – who left fans ‘confused’ about his changed appearance – played the character of Chris.
During a recent interview with People, Kidman expressed to the outlet, ‘Originally, it had a different title. It was called Motherf***er.’
‘Beeped out. Somehow that didn’t make it onto the Netflix title,’ Kidman jokingly continued.
The High School Musical alum also explained that the NSFW name had drawn attention to the film. ‘But that made the script stay at the top of the pile. It’s like, what on earth could this be about?’

Joey King also portrays Nicole’s daughter and Zac’s assistant in the project – with other stars such as Kathy Bates and Liza Koshy making appearances.
Earlier last month in June, the Oscar winner glammed up with her leading co-stars to attend the glitzy premiere of the rom-com in Los Angeles ahead of its release on Netflix.
The premise follows: ‘An unexpected romance triggers comic consequences for a young woman, her mother, and her boss, grappling with the complications of love, sex, and identity,’ per an IMDB synopsis.
Both Kidman and Efron are no strangers to working together, and previously starred in the 2012 crime drama, The Paperboy.
‘We had so much fun doing that, but it was crazy,’ Nicole also recalled to People in regards to collaborating on the past film.
Zac also talked about having the chance to reunite with the actress and work together once again.
‘I’m still so enamored with Nicole,’ he gushed to the publication. ‘There’s a part of me that pinches myself when I realize who I’m working with a lot.’
‘I think that was more pronounced during The Paperboy because I was a lot younger. I was very nervous back then.’

A Family Affair follows Nicole and Zac’s characters striking up a romance, and the two stars opened up about shooting their intimate scenes in the movie.
‘It’s really helpful when you’re doing this sort of work together that you’ve already got a history together, because it’s easy,’ the Big Little Lies actress stated.
‘You’re not working to create a history. So I’m not like, “Can I touch you?” I feel incredibly trusting of Zac,’ she continued, with Efron adding, ‘We both feel safe, and we take care of each other.’
On the topic of the flipped May December romance that the project displays, Nicole applauded the script – which was written by Carrie Solomon.
‘We’ve had it from way back with older men and younger women, that’s just always been the norm – it’s okay, it’s completely acceptable. The problem is we’ve not had the equivalent from all different viewpoints, with women telling the stories.’
The star added, ‘And we need game men. [Efron] came in and makes the film because he was like, “I’m here to have fun, to play, and to very much be a part of this and be there for you,” for both Joey and I.’
Amidst filming for A Family Affair, Zac was also simultaneously filming the A24 sports drama, The Iron Claw, and recalled doing ice baths in his trailer while shooting the Netflix project.
‘A lot of the stuff that I was doing in preparation kind of worked its way in [A Family Affair]. Like the ice bath was just in front of my trailer. I was constantly doing it because I was so sore.’

Efron stated, ‘He was like, “Dude, we have to put this in the film.” Then the next scene, we just did like a 20-minute ice bath [scene with] Joey.’
Upon the film’s release, fans were left ‘confused’ over the actor’s altered, facial appearance and wider jaw in the Netflix rom-com.
Some took to X to share their thoughts, with one penning, ‘Trying to watch #AFamilyAffair with #ZacEfron, but I’m way too distracted by whatever he did to his beautiful face. It looks like a huge chin implant & lip fillers why would he do that to himself?…’
Another added, ‘why tf did zac efron do that s**t to his face?’ while one shared, ‘Zac Efron went to Cabo and got a face lift.’
However, the actor has previously revealed that his changed appearance is the result of a severe accident that ‘shattered his jaw.’ The incident also made it into the script of A Family Affair.
During an interview with Men’s Health Magazine back in 2022, the star recalled slipping at his home and smashing his chin onto a fountain.
After losing consciousness, Efron woke up to find that the bone of his chin had been ‘hanging off his face’ and his jaw needed to be wired shut.

Following the accident, the injury resulted in the growth of the masseter muscles on his face and contributed to his now wider jaw.
While talking to Entertainment Tonight in 2022, the actor remembered plastic surgery rumors that had sparked due to his altered features.
‘My mom told me,’ he said of the speculation. ‘I don’t really read the internet, so, I don’t really give a f**k.’
However, he labeled the rumors as ‘funny’ but candidly revealed that the harrowing incident nearly took his life. ‘It sucks. I almost died, but we’re good.’
