And the 58-year-old Oscar-winning actress had been dreading the public’s response for months.
‘She’s been stressed because she knew the separation would eventually become public and she was dreading it,’ a source told People.
‘But she’s surprisingly level-headed and calm. Now that it’s out she’s just focused on what’s ahead and her girls,’ the insider said of the couple’s daughters Sunday, 17, and Faith, 14.
The actress and musician’s separation was confirmed by Daily Mail on Monday. Nicole filed for divorce on Tuesday, citing irreconcilable differences.
Their marriage first fell apart around the beginning of the summer of 2025. The split was reportedly a long-term development, stemming from months of quiet separation and diverging paths due to work commitments, according to Daily Mail sources.

Nicole has requested to be the primary residential parent in the custody arrangement.
The pair met at the G’Day LA gala ball in January 2005.
In a 2013 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the Babygirl star confessed it wasn’t until four months after they met that Keith asked her out.
She recalled: ‘I’m like, “You didn’t love me at first sight, you didn’t notice me,” and he’s like, “Yes I did but I just didn’t let on,” but we kind of met and then about four months later he called me.’
On the Australian talk show Interview in 2018, Keith admitted he had to muster the confidence to call the movie star.
‘I’d never have thought she’d see anything in a guy like me. But at some point I plucked up the courage to call those numbers, and she answered,’ he said.

The former husband and wife were married from 1990-2001. They adopted daughter Bella, 32, and son Connor, 30.
Nicole reportedly has a strained relationship with her two older children, with whom she has not been pictured since 2007.
In 2018 Kidman told Who that she is protective of her relationship with the kids.
‘I’m very private about all that. I have to protect all those relationships,’ she said.
However, the mom-of-four added, ‘I know 150% that I would give up my life for my children because it’s what my purpose is.’
