Nicola Coughlan has revealed her mother was ‘so mad’ about her Bridgerton sex scenes she wouldn’t go to the screening with her.
The actress, 37, made the confession on The Graham Norton Show on Friday alongside former James Bond star Daniel Craig and actors Jesse Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin.
The Derry Girls star, told host Graham, 61, that she found it strange playing an adult character, (she was 35 at the time).
She also said she felt she had experienced a baptism of fire when she took on the romantic lead in the third series of Bridgerton.
And the raunchy scene, which saw Nicola’s character Penelope Featherington strip naked before having sex with her so-star Luke Newton, who played Colin Bridgerton, shocked the Irish star’s mother so much, Nicola went without her to the screening for the show.
She told the chat show host: ‘I was 35 and I realised I had never played an adult, and I was like, “How do I do this?”.

‘It was then so weird having to play the romantic lead and getting up to sexy things.
‘My mother was so mad at me about those scenes – as if they were my fault, so I didn’t go to the screening with her!’
Fans were promised the ‘steamiest season yet’ when the third installment of Bridgerton was announced and they were not left disappointed.
In the series, which followed the friends to lovers arc of Penelope and Colin, one scene in particular set pulses racing.
In the explicit scene, Penelope was being comforted by Colin after a row with her mother about her engagement, during which time they began kissing.
Colin then undoes her corset and admires her naked figure.
The pair then moved to the chaise longue where the star’s bare bottom was displayed before they touched each other intimately.
They checked in on each other constantly, with Penelope stating: ‘tell me what to do’, with Colin offering: ‘you could touch me.’
After warning his virginal bride that this ‘may hurt’ the pair then had sex, with Penelope asking at the end ‘can we do it again?’ to which Colin quipped: ‘give me 5 minutes, maybe 10.’

Earlier this year the actress hit back at a female journalist who commented that she was ‘very brave’ to take on the part.
As some regarded the statement as a ‘backhanded comment’, Nicola brilliantly responded herself saying: ‘You know, it is hard because I think women with my body type – women with perfect breasts – we don’t get to see ourselves onscreen enough!’
‘And I’m very proud as a member of the perfect breasts community. I hope you enjoy seeing them.’
Elsewhere in the interview, Nicola revealed she had to brush up on her Doctor Who knowledge having never watched the show before being asked to appear on the Christmas special alongside Ncuti Gatwa.

The Harlots actress added that she would love to be asked back and had an excellent time on set.
She said: ‘I can’t tell you anything, not because of secrecy but because I had no idea what was going on.
‘I was brought up in Ireland so didn’t see it as a child so when I got the part, I looked it up on Wikipedia – it was like reading War and Peace and it was so confusing with monsters and time travel.
‘It was a fun experience, and I had a lovely time. If they want me back, I would do it again.’
