Jennette McCurdy may have undergone the delicate and very involved procedure of freezing her eggs, but that doesn’t make her want to have children at this stage in her life.
The iCarly alum, 33, whose book I’m Glad My Mom Died detailed her allegedly abusive and controlling relationship with her late mother, Debra, opened up on why she doesn’t want to be a mom on the Wednesday, January 7 episode of Call Her Daddy, as reported by People.
The conversation came up towards the end of the interview when host Alex Cooper asked, ‘How has your childhood influenced your idea of motherhood?’
McCurdy – who has a fan in Jennifer Aniston who’s playing her mother in an upcoming Apple+ limited series – didn’t mince her words. ‘I don’t want kids if that’s what you’re asking,’ she said, before asking the same question of Cooper.
The podcast host, 31, answered that she didn’t want children when she was in her twenties, but she’s since changed her mind.
‘That’s interesting, because most people know. I feel like most people know early on and they stick with that,’ McCurdy commented before adding: ‘I know I don’t want kids at this point in my life. I’m also open to wanting kids at some point.’

McCurdy, who has been in a relationship for nine years, confessed she froze her eggs in September of last year. ‘Because I don’t know if I’m going to change my mind,’ she explained.
‘We’ve discussed it and neither of us really want kids, but we are also open to changing our minds and being in that process together,’ she said of her and her boyfriend.
She added: ‘I didn’t want to change my mind 10 years from now and it’d be too late.’
The author confessed she first looked into the process of freezing her eggs two years ago, but the Beverly Hills doctor that she consulted scared her off by drawing pictures of her anatomy to show ‘the best time to do this was two years ago.’
At the time, McCurdy thought to herself, ‘This seems awful. I don’t want to do this.’
But in the summer of 2025, she had a change of heart.
‘I went to a different doctor, and they seemed much more comforting. I felt much more safer in that environment, and I thought, “Okay, I’m gonna go for it.”‘
Speaking about the actual process, McCurdy said: ‘I thought it was going to be terrible. I was warned that it can be really, really emotional, having these big mood swings. And for me it was actually not that. It was really straightforward and simple.’

Luckily, she had a nurse come to her house every night to help with she said, adding that she was lucky to have a nurse come to her house nightly to assist with the key steps in the egg freezing process including the hCG – human chorionic gonadotropin – injections to trigger ovulation.
‘I think it would have been a lot more stressful if I’d had to, like, formulate the things myself and put the powder in with the liquid and inject it,’ she said.
‘That seems like a nightmare. But having somebody come and administer everything was really helpful, and the process was very simple and seemed effective.’
McCurdy was on the podcast to promote her new novel, Half His Age, about a 17-year-old girl named Waldo who pursues a relationship with her older and married creative writing teacher.
Meanwhile, the former child star is writing and showrunning the Apple+ series I’m Glad My Mom Died based on her massive bestseller. It stars Jennifer Aniston as the mother. There’s no release date yet, but it’s in development.
Aniston recently said she and McCurdy ‘had very similar moms.’Â
‘When it came across my desk as an option, an offer to play this character,’ the former Friends star said, ‘I was pretty much immediately intrigued and flattered and excited.’Â
Aniston added: ‘It’s going to be wonderful. It’s going to be pretty great to start shooting it.’Â
