Nick Grimshaw always felt as if he ‘didn’t fit in’.
The former radio host, 39, explained to the upcoming Easter edition of the Radio Times magazine that he was always an ‘outsider’ but no longer cares and finds it ‘attractive’ when people embrace themselves for who they truly are.
He said: ‘I’ve felt like an outsider quite a lot in my life. In school, I felt like I didn’t fit in.
‘When I was younger, what I thought was cool or popular was potentially superficial or followed the stereotypical things we’d see in films, like people having a six-pack.
‘I don’t care now! When people are truly themselves, that’s so attractive, and I’m drawn to that.

The former BBC Radio 1 host fulfiled a childhood ambition with his long stint on the broadcasting station and has also carved out a career in television, but recalled not being entirely enthusiastic when it was suggested he try out presenting on screen.
He said: ‘As a child, I specifically said I wanted to host the Radio 1 breakfast show.
After applying for a string of internships at MTV, he eventually landed one in the international creative department before he was put forward for a screen tesrt
Nick wasn’t enamoured with the idea of appearing on screen but went along for a test anyway.
‘I remember being like, “Ugh, not telly.” I was fixated on radio, so I didn’t do it –but then I got released from MTV for being a rubbish intern.’

The Josh Must Win star is also looking forward to his milestone birthday later this year and feels as if his career ‘reflects’ where he is at right now in life.

‘Now, I’m excited about turning 40 in August. Everything I do is reflective of where I’m at now – like my podcast Dish with chef Angela Hartnett, and Sidetracked with Annie Macmanus, where we talk about things that are age appropriate.’
Nick – who hosted Big Brother’s Big Mouth for a period of time – also explained that television is ‘nicer’ now than it has been in recent years.
He noted that in his new reality show, neither him nor his team ‘set out to cause drama’ and that they are committed to ‘helping somebody really sweet to shine in a competitive world’.
The new reality show is now showing on E4, and Nick is seen alongside Vicky Pattinson and Amber Gill.
