Netflix has reportedly renewed Charlie Brooker’s hit dystopian anthology series Black Mirror for a seventh season.
The sci-fi satire is scheduled to go into production ‘later this year’ and will be overseen by the British 52-year-old showrunner and his executive producers Jessica Rhoades and Annabel Jones – according to Variety.
The streaming giant has not officially confirmed the news and no casting, plot details, or episode counts have been revealed.
Black Mirror’s sixth season – which dropped June 15 – reportedly spent four weeks in the global top 10 for English-speaking TV, and it reached the top 10 in 92 countries.

The most daring of the five episodes was Joan Is Awful – starring Salma Hayek and Annie Murphy – which featured an AI-inspired parody of Netflix called Streamberry that turned ordinary people’s lives into shows.
‘I worry for a living — it’s generally what I do — and I’m very worried about AI and the use of ChatGPT and things like that,’ Brooker told Variety back in June.
‘That’s a particular concern to me, so that’s why I’m [at the WGA/SAG/AFTRA strike]. Unfortunately, in this case [Joan Is Awful predicted the future].’
Other stand-outs included Beyond the Sea about two astronauts in space using two avatars back on Earth and Demon 79 about a department store clerk forced to murder three people in order to stop the world from ending.
And while season six scored an adequate 78% critic approval rating (out of 127 reviews), audiences gave it an absolutely dismal 43% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Black Mirror won the Primetime Emmy Award for outstanding television movie three times consecutively for San Junipero (2017), USS Callister (2018), and Bandersnatch (2019).
The first two seasons and the Christmas special originally debuted on Channel 4 in 2011, 2013, and 2014 before permanently moving to Netflix in 2016.
