Outlander star Nell Hudson has become a mother for the first time after announcing the birth of her daughter, describing the moment as ‘the best possible way’ to be broken in two.
The 34-year-old actress confirmed the news on Instagram on Wednesday, saying she was in awe of all mothers and calling for ‘a new word for love’ as she revealed she and her new husband Max King have welcomed a daughter.
She wrote: ‘I can’t believe everyone ever was given birth to by a woman and we all just go around like it’s normal,
‘MOTHERS – I am in awe of all of you. I am broken in two in the best possible way. It’s a girl. Need a new word for love.’
The emotional words accompanied two intimate photos, including one of the hospital bed – seemingly where she gave birth, with sheets crumpled and medical equipment still in place – and a second close-up of the baby’s tiny hand curled on a blanket.
Children’s book author Lauren Connelly commented: ‘Whatever her name is is your new word for love!’

While her former Call the Midwife co-star Jennifer Kirby, recently a new mother herself, joked: ‘I was like “wait… people do this ALL THE TIME?! MULTIPLE TIMES??” congrats darling.’
Nell and Max, a producer and brother of celebrity hair stylist Larry King, tied the knot last month in a small family ceremony.
The Worcestershire-born actress wore a ruffled white gown with delicate tulle sleeves and a dramatic tiered A-line skirt.
With one hand resting gently on her bump, the bride looked every inch the glowing mum-to-be.
Her husband, Max, stood proudly beside her in a classic black double-breasted suit and silver tie.
She captioned the post: ‘First little look at some wedding pics ❤️ what can I say that hasn’t ever been said it really was the best day ever. More to come soon.’
It came just three months after Nell revealed that she and Max were planning a ‘very tiny family-only wedding before the baby comes’.
She said: ‘I feel so lucky that my future brother-in-law Larry King will be there and helping me on the day.’

The couple announced their engagement in March last year while on a romantic getaway in Paris, with a photo of them smiling in front of the Eiffel Tower.
Last month’s post included credits for her glam team, with makeup by Devon Windsor (@devonmakeupgirl) and hair styled by her new brother-in-law, of course using luxury clip-in extensions by Tatiana Karelina.
Nell, who found fame as Laoghaire MacKenzie in the hit Starz series Outlander, has also appeared in ITV’s Victoria and Channel 4’s The Irregulars.
She is the daughter of author Cressida Connolly and stepdaughter of the late journalist A.A. Gill, who died of cancer in 2016.
The arrival of her baby girl comes just weeks after she married her long-term partner in an intimate ceremony, as the couple prepared to welcome their first child together (pictured 2022)
